I had hoped for better results with the watering mat but maybe the pots I set on them were not offering enough open access to the mat to do the job. MINUS 1 star for this aspect.BUT the water wicking cords are phenomenal! Whether lying on top of soil of plants in pots, or woven thru the bottom holes--the water supply in an adjacent container actually was quickly wicked to keep the soil moist. It was almost spooky how much water moved from the reservoir to the pots.

The mat alone is an aggressive wicker!! I used it in combination with the wicks included in the order to moderate the rate of flow.

I use the string more than the felt liner.. I use a peat based potting mix , so when it dries its hard to re wet.. while repotting my plants use the string and wind I found the root ball from bottom to top. Top of the string gets cut even with soil.. I then fill in with dirt.. this allows water to follow the string not just run off the sides when the soil is dry..This little hack makes a huge difference.. the quality wicking of this string makes it work.

Verstehe die positiven Bewertungen nicht. Die Matte war für meine Mooszucht gedacht und steht permanent mindestens 4cm im Wasser und ist einfach Furztrocken in allen Bereichen die über dem Wasser liegen. Den Docht zusätzlich herum gelegt und immer noch trocken.

I’m excited to use this for my seedlings this year. I’ll update & continue to update as my plants mature. It’s hard to keep plantlings watered “just right,”I’ve already tested it & it does work- I’m hoping it works for what I wanted it for though…Update: all of my seedlings are being watered by this system. They’re doing great. I use silicone based seedling planters.

As we’ve been moving our seedlings from our germination station (hydroponic unit) to planters we’ve had to consider watering options. While drip irritation and timed watering system will work they have the same problem – moving parts, timer, and an opportunity for massive failure – which is vulneratblity to tech issues. Going lower tech we decided to go with this wicking system that uses the material’s ( cord and mat) wicking motion to move water to your plants. Whether you lay out the mat or use it in combination with the cord wicks your watering limitations are now limited only to water on hand, not to battery or electrical failure. We’ve managed to get a dozen full sized plants developed and ready for garden planting using this wicking system, some old food grade container and a shallow tray. Excellent price, great product, good for traveling, transitioning or just having some additional support as you maintain your garden.

This offer a promising concept for automatic plant care, especially for busy individuals or frequent travelers. However, in practice, I found them somewhat impractical. While the idea of automatic watering is commendable, fitting the mat into certain plant containers can be challenging, and the wick cord doesn't consistently distribute water evenly, leading to some plants getting too much or too little water. Setting up the system can be tricky, and the instructions could be clearer. Once it's properly configured, it does provide some peace of mind during my absence, but it falls short of its full potential. Overall, it's a decent concept but could benefit from improvements in design and usability, earning it a three-star rating.
