Came with a grease fitting to install but I couldn’t start the threads without it wanting to go cross threaded. I used a tap and die set to chase the threads and that took care of it.

PHOTO: MOOG 8678 MISSING BOOT // I completely rebuilt my front end on a '96 Ford Crown Victoria, in March of 2012. Now my upper ball joints have failed, sort of, in that the boots on both had split. I just bought new tires, and was inspecting before taking for alignment - when I wiped the blob of Mobil -1- Synthetic grease from the shaft below the ball joints on both sides, the boot came off in my hand. It had split on one side like cut with a knife, but nobody cut it. Evidently, I overfilled the upper ball joints (lowers are still in tact and OK) over the years as I put new grease in them for every oil change the first year and every other oil change thereafter for 9-1/2 years. Two things I found out: One is that synthetic grease will eventually eat through the sidewall of a good tire (Hankook), over time. It is important to thoroughly clean that grease off the tire and to be sure that the zerks are not leaking from back-pressure. Two is that not all zerk-fitted items are properly vented to allow overflow for excessive grease when lubing. I wanted to replace the black grease that came in the fitting from MOOG with the red synthetic grease from Mobile-1- / a super product, but somehow mildly corrosive tires. Anyway, my alignment is to be done soon, and it is the plan to ask them if I'm right about the reasons for failure. To credit MOOG, the ball joints have not failed yet, they are still tight with full movement - working as they should. I cleaned them out and ty-wraped a commercial sheet of plastic around them until repaired. It seems unusual that both failed in the same way at the same time, except that I overfilled the boots, and/or should have put a small hole in the boots to allow for overflow. Live and learn is my slow progression through the decades learning how to properly maintain and repair my cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

Parts came very quickly. The parts looked a little stronger than the OEM. They installed easily. Joints were nice and stiff. Very tight joint. Hard part is getting the old joint stem out of where it had been seated for 20 years. Everything fit snug. Boots were hefty and it came with nipples. I greased the joints before putting them in. But, remove the nipples when installing because you're going to have to bang the stem into the hole where they seat. Then put the nipples back on. Overall, would recommend theses parts.

Anybody that drives a 99 - 03 Crown Vic/Grand Marquis knows the ball joints equipped by Ford are "greased for life" which really means "replace after 150,000 miles". I've owned 3 of these cars and I will only put Mood re-greasable ball joints in as replacements to the Ford OEM ball joints. They are extremely high quality and silent when newly greased. Whenever I start hearing that creaking noise on turns and bumps I take it to my local suspension shop and they re-grease it for less than the cost of a tank of gas.

Moog Suspension Parts are exactly what they are marketed as, Tthe Problem Solvers". I tried the cheap "all in one" package of front end suspension parts from an auction site, only to have to replace all of them after they wore out and my car began clunking and handling terrible. I installed all Moog suspension parts on my Lincoln Town Car and it is as quiet as it could possibly be. And the Moog Parts on Amazon...about half the price of what they are at the national chain stores or anywhere else on the web for that matter!!

My car had steering wander even though it had only barely detectable play in upper ball joint. The moog upper joint fixed this and was easy to install at home.

Today's tires cost a small fortune, and your large Ford, Mercury, or Lincoln is prone to uneven tire wear after about 40 thousand miles. The ball joints and tie-rod ends of the stock Ford Motor Company's large vehicles are factory-sealed, and have no grease fittings. They are usually ready to crap out at about 40-45k. A set of GREASABLE upper and lower ball joints, sway-bar links, and tie rod ends from MOOG will keep your luxury car safe and smooth, maintain precise front-end alignment, and keep tire wear to an absolute minimum. The MOOG K8678 kit is an easy install, with no special tools or skills necessary. A reasonably-well-equipped cave man could do it !!IMPORTANT UPDATE : The Moog K8678 Upper Ball Joint (Bushing) kit fits 1995-2000 Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Cars.Use Amazon's handy parts checker to be sure your parts will fit before you order !! I have used MOOG suspension parts for over 50 years -- in my street machines, racing, and off-road vehicles as well. The quality is unmatched, and Amazon's low price beats the Ford dealer's price all to hell !! AND, the ones from the Ford Dealer aren't Greasable !!! In today's economy, we all need to stretch our dollars a lot farther, and quality suspension parts from MOOG will keep your car alive longer, your family safer, and your wallet fatter, too !!Amazon's low price and speedy delivery seal the deal !! Thanks, Amazon !!

If you plan on owning your car for more than an 100,000 miles you will want these ball joints in lieu of the factory non-greasable type. Moog makes these things damn near bullet proof. I live in the snow belt and pot holes eat suspensions off of the cars around here like a kid eats candy. The salt and abuse of bad roads takes a terrible toll on even the best designs in automotive suspension. In my case I have an old police cruiser and the ball joints these replaced were just about useless. I have never had a bit of trouble with Moog components and have even received compliments from the garages, that do my alignments, on my choice of parts. All you gotta do is keep 'em greased and they will last well over the 100,000 mile mark.Have a ghoulishly delightful day,The Reverend Grim Daddy
