01 removal SMD

Step 1

Put A Few Solder Flux To The Leads Or Pins To Be Soldered On The Target Component.

02 removal SMD

Step 2

Start With A Soldering Iron To Melt The Chip Removal Alloy Onto The Pins Where You Applied The Flux. Take Care Not To Over Heat The Work Area If Necessary, Allow The Chip To Cool Before

03 removal SMD

Step 3

Move The Soldering Iron Around The Pins, Until All Solder To A Molten State, You Can Lift The Chip Now.

03 removal SMD

Step 4

4. Used Solder Wick Braid To Clean The Remaining Solder Off The Pads And Clean Remaining Residue.

Low melt solder is the only thing I’ve been able to clear the mounting hols of usb c ports. This stuff is in a pretty thick stick but it works good. Very low melting temp.

The low melt solder mixed with the OE solder and made the hdmi port replacement a lot easier!

Solder braid was not doing the job for me. This stuff allowed removal of a 1" smd part so I could resume.

Reviewing Low Melt Solder (0.9oz) by Essmetuin:I thought the thicker stick might be easier to work with and not get mixed up with regular solder on the work bench.Well it is much thicker and can not be mixed up with regular solder....so that is nice. However, I did find the thick size made it hard to get in tight places and get the solder where needed. The solder seemed to stick to the iron more than the part. Maybe a size between this and what I was using would be good....I still would like to tell the difference from regular solder laying on the bench.Note you need to clean all this solder off the board before putting new part on or you might have problems if board heats up and solder melts! I use solder wick to remove all the left over solder.Low melt solder is a must have for removing multi pin parts from multilayer boards without damaging the board or pulling the through hole rings out that will destroy the connection to any inner layers of the board. This used to happen to me all the time. Also a must for SMD parts as they are more stuck to the board. You must heat up all pins at nearly the same time....the low melt solder gives you more time for solder to be in melted state.

This solder melts at a much lower temperature than typical solder. When added to existing solder, it mixes with the old solder, and makes it much easier -- and safer (for the components) -- to remove soldered components. It would be easier to use in tighter spaces if it was thin like standard solder; but there are ways to make it work.
