This Hi-Hat stand is inadequate. Yes, it is light, but there are too many corners cut for me to support this stand. It's built of metal and has the basic functions of a hi-hat stand, but I would only really use this to hold my hi-hats off to the side. For one the clamp to lock the height is not a real clamp, it’s a set screw. This will lead to a bent tube and it will not hold as well as a proper clamping design. The foot pedal springs hold onto a bent metal strip and that is not the ideal design. The actual pedal action is rough. The spring is noisy, tension cannot be adjusted, and worst of all, the pedal motion is scratchy. For $20 more you can get a decent Hi-Hat stand brand-new and if you plan on learning hi-hat control having a scratchy stand will make it harder than it needs to be. Or just look around for a used one.

I have a decent student/beginner drum kit with pretty basic hardware. I got this hi-hat stand/pedal thinking it would be an upgrade. It’s really not. More of just a trade across for something newer. It’s a pretty basic build, with decent spring action on the pedal. Super easy to install and adjust, nothing to write home about. If you need a functional high hat stand, this will work. Just don’t plan to use it for your world tour with your band.

The wing bolts on the stand and clutch all feel rather lightweight. The cup that holds the bottom cymbal lacks a metal washer under the felt. The tilter screw simply pushes up into the bottom felt directly, which limits the effectiveness of the tilt adjustment. The tilter screw is also awkward to turn, having a small plastic head which is smaller than the spring immediately above it. Perhaps the good news is that the cup isn't epoxied to the top tube; it is just press-fit onto it, so it could be replaced if desired. The clutch is fully threaded, which can cause keyholing damage to the top cymbal as the threads act on the cymbal like a rasp or file. Also there is only one nut to adjust the top cymbal. It is below the cymbal (above the cymbal is only a washer), and the nut doesn't lock. This non-locking nut can lead to the top cymbal falling down off the clutch while playing. The clutch felts are rather large; they are the size of standard cymbal-stand felts rather than the smaller felts typically used on a hi-hat clutch. This stand is very similar to the beginner hi-hat stand I started out with, which was one of the first pieces I eventually upgraded. If drummers, even beginners, are able to acquire a more professional-level hi-hat stand than this one, I recommend they do.

Would Frank Ferrer use this? Not likely. Would Lars Ulrich bang out on this, not in his lifetime. However, you can, and especially when getting started. I'm not a professional drummer, not a session drummer, or even a part time drummer. I can't even read music, but I can read guitar tab, and understand music theory and rhythm. I play the blues / Jazz on guitar, from acoustic prewar era up until the 70s. I play a lot of music styles including country and bluegrass with a banjo.I got this lightweight Hi Hat so when my kids get into trouble. There punishment is that they have to be my drummer while I do 2 hour guitar solos and keep in time. I'm not kidding. I do have another Hi Hat stand, and other drum equipment for them to use as well. I usually use the drum kit to built backing tracks for my solos on my own, and then convert them to mp3 and then play them back. This Hi Hat stand is perfect for beginners, those who need one in a pinch, or travel a lot. It is lightweight, easy to carry and takes up little to no space. You will need a rubberized drum mat, or something similar to keep the stand from moving away in serious sessions. The tripod stand does have rubber feet, but it does move away overtime. The foot pedal could have used some thin synthetic rubberized material to prevent floor marring or scratching. The clutch, oddly enough comes with a washer as a lock for the top rather than a fixing nut. I found that to be really odd. The wingnut for fast adjustments is also a bit on the tiny side, but it does work. It all works, but keep those things in mind. I'll just hit the hardware store for a finger tightening stainless steel nut for the top of the clutch and a nice large stainless steel washer to add better coverage of the cymbal felt.Very minor negligible things, that can be cheaply upgraded (and only if you want to), but other then that, a great Hi Hat stand. It holds the cymbals well, and the cymbals stay put. I use heavy jazz style 14" Zildjian cymbals and with constant use, they still stay put. I can stay in the closed position and still play them with no issues.Overall, a great budget stand, that works in a pinch or great for beginners.

3.8 stars out of 5 stars (standard rounding rules apply)Got this stand for my child, thinking it would be good to slowly piece together a kit for them. This is sturdy enough, but not the highest of quality. My opinion would be if you are using it to hold your Hi-Hat or just starting out then this would be good; though you may want to upgrade at some point. I would recommend looking around first to see if there is something else, but for the price that this product is and compared to others it is worth it for beginners.

Seems study and heavy enough. Poles are straight. Only problem is there are no instructions, and as a beginner I don’t know how to set it up. I had to search online now to set up a high hat stand.
