I have been needing to replace my older planters as they have started falling apart and I wanted to go with something lighterweight, but still sturdy and wouldn't easily tip over. I came across this self-watering planter in the size I was looking for and in the black which I also like because it doesn't show the dirt. It's a good thickness that won't easily crack or get warped under the weight of soil. It has a nice wide base for stability, too. I like that its a two-ply planter in that there is an inner liner where the planting and soil goes and a draining area underneath in the outer planter to prevent water sitting in the soil and root rot. The self-watering part is optional. In truth, I have to water all my other beds and planters so that isn't an option I care much about, but I did test it and it does work. So, I really like this one so far even though all I'm currently using it for is to start some seeds inside up in the windowsill. Looking forward to moving it all outside when weather warms up. Definitely recommend.

I like this self watering plants system. I got the 1-pack. I'm thinking of getting an additional 2-pack because the price is so good. The build quality is very good, 14" long is a good size, and the design is smart. I love that it comes with a water gauge that makes it easy to know when it needs to be watered. There's a smaller planter with drainage holes that fits into the larger rectangular pot. The larger pot has a plug on the bottom if you want to quickly empty the water quickly. I've never really utilized the bottom watering method but I'm hopeful. I mostly have young plants with short roots so I generally top-water, but I'm eager to see if the self-watering system will work well for my more mature herbs. Great value. Looking forward to healthy plants.

I have been using a very similar planter for several years now and really like it, so I decided to order this pair of planters to use at our lake cabin. This set of two planters are a much better quality than the other planter I have, and they cost the same (for a set of two) as the ONE planter I already have - so much more affordable. These planters are made of plastic, but the satin (almost matte) finish makes them look very sleek and modern - not like cheap plastic. While the plastic isn't overly thick, it is thick enough to make the planters strong and sturdy. The inserts that fit into the planters are also made of plastic, and are also very strong and strudy. The inserts fit perfectly into the planters and are easy to remove as needed. The water level gauge is easy to install into the planter insert and it works well at showing you the water level of the planter base. This gauge also has a fertilizer marker on the top that you can turn when you need to add fertilizer - it's just a handy indicator. The outer portion of the planter acts as the reservoir that holds the water, while the insert holds the plants up out of the water. The insert does siphon the water up to the plants, providing an adequate amount of moisture without drowning the plant roots.NOTE: Because this type of self-watering planter keeps the soil moist, make sure you are not using the planter for plants that need the soil to fully dry out between watering. The planters are sealed on the bottom so can be used indoors with no fear of water leaking all over. If you prefer, you can remove the drainplug in the planter, and then use the planters outdoors.NOTE: You do NOT have to remove the drainplug in order to use this planter outdoors. However, if you don't remove the drainplug, just make sure the planter is placed in a covered area so rain water won't drown your plants.Overall, I am very happy with the quality, style, and function of these planters. They are going to work perfectly at our lake cabin. I've just planted my favorite annual seeds in the planters and am looking forward to flowers blooming in the spring!PROS:- High quality plastic that is strong and sturdy- Sleek and modern design- Easy to assemble- Water gauge is easy to read- Drainplug can be removed, if desired- Very affordableCONS:- None

We live in an area where we have ‘weather’, so the doors and windows in our homes are pretty much well sealed and usually stay shut all fall and winter. A while ago we read some information on keeping live plants inside the home to both clean the air, as well as provide more oxygen. There are even some articles about what plants are best to keep in specific rooms. For example, some plants specifically turn carbon monoxide into oxygen during nighttime hours. We have put a bunch of these plants in our bedroom where we, and our giant beasties, sleep each night. Some plants are ideal for bathrooms due to their moisture needs, and others do great in other areas of the home or office.Since we are retired now, we mostly pay attention to the air in the great room and our bedroom. I ordered these self-watering pots to put on my desk in the great room. I have my computer on one side of the desk but am filling the other side with plants. I have somehow managed to not get any water marks on the wood desk, and love the idea of self watering planters to help me continue that record.I was excited when this set of self-watering planters arrived and had received plants to put in them. Unfortunately, I could not separate the pieces because they had settled together so tightly. One of the grown up littles arrived shortly afterwards – and they could not separate the pieces either. After several tries the two of us were eventually able to separate the pieces. I was going to give this three stars, because it was such a pain to get apart. But the bottom line is that these will work great as self watering planters and I wish they were longer, (and easier to separate), so I gave it four stars. It would be easy and inexpensive for them to fix the problems we had with some tissue paper or a piece of cardboard.
