Arrived packaged extremely well, double boxed with the inner box being a double walled cardboard box. The balance itself came preassembled, in a sturdy styrofoam clamshell. The balance itself, which in my case is the model FA5003S, is large and substantial. The draft shield is glass with plastic edges, and the sides as well as the top have small handles for sliding them open and closed. The glass is nicely rounded to ensure no sharp corners or edges. The manual is okay, a bit sparse and clearly just printed on some paper stapled in half, but comprehensible enough.AC adapter is provided, 9v 500mA, UL listed. Alternatively, supports the usage of 4x AA batteries.Included is a 500g calibration weight marked M1 which to my understanding is a spec for a ±25mg calibration weight. Which is okay, but since this is marketed as a 1mg scale, you'd need a more precise calibration weight for those really exact measurements. Now, the interesting features:1, There's a display on the back of the scales. Mostly useful in a store environment where you want to have the customer be able to see the weight, too.2, There's a functional USB-B port in addition to the RS-232 serial, which presents to the OS a CH340 serial port. Obviously USB is much easier to deal with. I was able to connect using 9600 baud, and the readout of the scale was printed automatically several times a second. Very useful for automatic logging. The only questionable aspect that needs to be brought up is that there's two precision ratings, a "d" and "e". The "d" is the smallest that the scale can indicate, and is in fact 1mg. The "e" according to manual specs for this (see picture) is 10mg. According to some commercial standards only the "e" rating can be used for commercial transactions, so keep in mind that it's 10mg for this scale rather than 1mg. As a non-professional user I don't know if this type of labeling is typical or not, so I'm just putting it out there as an FYI for others. And of course the aforementioned included ±25mg class weight would still be insufficient to use for calibration of either "d" or "e".On the whole this is a very nice and well built balance at a good price, with good repeatability as it can measure the calibration weight to the same weight repeatedly after calibrating. Recommended, with the above caveat.

For the most part I don't really have a real need of this scale. However, I do love it. One of my favorite things to do is to measure of the contents of various foods and snacks to see if they are giving you the correct amount. You would be amazed at how often we are getting well below the amount as advertised. For my curiosity alone, 5 stars.
