I was dumb and grinded my 290lb frame up a steep hill with a 53t-19t. Rims and spokes survived, AND THIS CHAIN, but the axel on my brand new Dura ace hubs did not. I see no reason to dump the money on the more expensive version of this chain, since Iām proof these things are strong af.

As soon as i opened the packaging, i could tell this is a chain built with high quality Japanese steel and pride. Noticeably robust links, not the lightest chain, but thats the trade off for reliability. Comparable to the KMC 710 "kool chain" which weighed 100 grams more on my bike. The 100 gram lighter SRAM PC1 has been my go to for the last few years, but the thought of it snapping is always in the back of my mind since every one has failed within a year. This chain seems like a happy medium for weight and durability. Time will tell. Also, the chain comes fom the factory with a protective coating of grease that resembles adhesive or foam air filter oil. After a soaking it in some gas and dry lubing i took it for a ride and it was a dirt magnet. Had to soak it in gasoline again and scrub it to get rid of any grease. Once clean, the nickel plating shines like bright polished chrome.

The GOODS: super smooth when you get tension right. Looks great on the bike and easy to clean.The BADS: Noisy (First World problems amirite?!). Even after about 100miles in, the chain is still noisy. It also had some flaking to it too which seems to be normal. It comes with one master link spring clip. Perhaps buy a couple to match the color you get. My clip flew off on the first ride and the chain came undone....I've been riding bikes/motorcycles and this was the first time that's ever happened.

It feels high quality and smooth. Better than kmc chains I've used. The black/gold is understated.

Very nice chain. Strong and looks good on the bike too. This is the second Izumi chain I ordered after I wore the first one out. Recommended to anyone riding a single geared bike.
