Although the bit I received seems to be a good quality bit, it isn’t like the one shown in the photo. I use spade or paddle bits which have “cutter” teeth on both sides of the bit, which enter the wood first and produce good, clean holes. I have never seen a bit like the one I received… instead of cutter teeth on the two sides of the bit, both corners of the bit where the cutter teeth would normally be, are “clipped” at 45 degree angles. As a result, the very corner of the bit doesn’t start cutting the hole to its full diameter until the bit is approximately 1/8 - 3/16” deep into the hole you’re drilling. I bored a couple test holes into a piece of shelving board and they seemed to turn out okay, but the jury is still out on how it will perform on end grain and other types of wood. It would have been nice to have received an item like the one pictured… that wasn’t the case this time.

Order a few of these traditional style Irwin spade bit, that have an outside cutting tooth. Discription and pics show this.Recived the newer speed bore bits, that do not have the outer cutting tooth. Are also shorter, and have a quick change impact shank. Also not as discribed, or pics show.

I just received my bit and it does not have the points on the spade ends as shown in the picture. It is flat at the ends. Without the pointy tips at each wing-end, it can't be used for drilling soft plastic. The picture here is not the bit I received. Buyer beware.
