Perspective: I drill through top plates to drop network wiring into wall cavities more days than not. Most of the time that requires getting through two 2x4s, and sometimes nails and metal brackets. Standard cheapo spade bits are obliterated by a single nail hit, causing immediate work stoppage to replace the bit and then start a new hole in a hopefully "clean" spot.Pros: They're perfect for their intended purpose. These nailstrikes are the toughest spade bit I've seen over my career, and I've yet to wear it out with 4 months of abuse. Set the drill to low and let it do all the work. 7/8 is the perfect diameter for using a magnepull too.Con: They will seriously blow out the exit hole. Personally, that's a non issue for how I use it. However, if you need to leave a clean exit hole, you can switch to a brad point bit when you feel it stop walking itself through, so long as you're letting the tools do the work and not pushing on it.TLDR: If you need a spade bit that will last and go through the first time, this is the one.

These bits work the best for making holes in 2x4s. For some reason framers feel the need to put 20 nails in a double plate so having a bit to make a hole and doesn't break when it his nails is important.The only downside is the price and while the nails don't break the bits they do cause them to dull out after awhile.

I was going through 7/8" spade bits really fast because I was always having to drill new tie-holes through old concrete formwork. Sometimes the bits would hit a pocket of concrete or nails and the bit would be no more. These bits seem to hold up and the auger tip really helps pull the bit through the wood.

I work in New construction for homes as an electrician. I've been going through to many paddle bits because of striking nails. I've tried the Diablo, makita..etc brands. They all work well. But they all get very dull after striking a nail.I decided to try this one. It looked promising being a realist I like to see how things preform in the real world.I've used this now on several houses and dozens of wooden structures with nails and I good say I am impressed. It's still going strong and beasts nails.
