Using 5x Samsung enterprise SSDs in RAID5 as bootable drives 1GB/s read 560MB/s write. Then 6x HDDs in RAID6 which are getting around 200MB/s write speed for large files. Cache set to Write Through just to be safe. Easy good looking web interface, little laggy. Some things are only available in CLI. Manuals and documentation not so good. Make sure to use CPU's PCIe 3.0 x8 slot on the motherboard, update the SSD/HDD and the card to the latest firmware and use the latest drivers from HighPoint site. RAID6 only available through the Windows web setup, but not available in the boot up BIOS settings. I think the card cannot boot RAID6. The card boots only when motherboard PCIe is set to UEFI, and the card's BIOS integrates with motherboard's UEFI settings. When PCIe set to legacy, the card's BIOS settings are accessible on boot up if you use MBR. Overall great product, but it would be nice if it had better documentation, settings recommendation and information on each setting.

I bought this card because someone said this was compatible with TrueNAS -- when it is NOTMy BIOS and system can see the controller, and all attempts to install BSD drivers failed.Message from HighPoint:"Dear customer,I am Yong Hong, an FAE from HighPoint Technologies. I have been assigned to your support case.Currently our products do not support TrueNAS and have not been verified on the TrueNAS platform. We have some customer feedback that they can run a pass through to the PCI slot directly to the VM’s and it can be used normally in the Ubuntu virtual machine after the linux driver is installed. We will discuss internally whether we need to support this OS in the future. If you have any questions, please let me know.Thanks.Best Regards,HighPoint Technologies, Inc "

The >$1,000.00 cards are not available anywhere right now, with the manufacturers giving ETAs of availability in the third quarter ***2024***. So this is pretty much all a consumer can buy right now if they are trying to set up a hardware RAID box for the foreseeable future. Most consumers right now aren't buying large capacity hard disks anymore; they are opting for complete M.2.While this is a card that has the same kind of configuration and setup as the >$1,000.00 cards, including the web page configuration, the card does not have any kind of onboard processor or RAM. You can't expect that it would, when it is 1/3 the price of true hardware RAID cards. Most motherboards sold today have 8 SATA ports maximum. So if you want more than this and you want RAID, or you don't want to do 100% software RAID via Windows "Storage Spaces", then this card is pretty much the best (and only ) option right now, and probably for the foreseeable future.(Remember that SATA drives are compatible with SAS ports. The reverse is not the case.)

I was looking for a RAID card solution with SAS to connect 10 drives in RAID 10. My criteria were pretty simple - it had to have an auto rebuild/scrub function and it had to be less than $500. The 3740C fit the bill and I've been happy ever since I bought it. I paid $453 in Q1 of 2022 and haven't looked back.Unfortunately, you have to do a bit of digging to find a card that supports scrubbing - which is stupid. Why have RAID at all if your data won't be secured? As of right now, HighPoint and LSI are the only two companies that I know of that natively support scrubbing...but that depends on the model that you purchase. LSI is ultra expensive, HighPoint is more reasonably priced. And, their tech support is responsive and do so in proper English.

Replaced an old LSI card with this one for more drives; a comparable LSI is around 1K.The BIOS in my 2021 Motherboard won't boot from any drives connected to the HPT card, HPT tech support was fast in their response and pointed at the ASUS firmware as the culprit. Rather than going back and forth, I settled on a EFI boot device that's connected through the MB SATA port. Less than ideal, but it works for booting from the linux RAID.Also have to be sure to include the HPT driver in the initramfs disk every time the kernel upgrades. Not a big deal, but an extra step nonetheless. All in all, the card is a great value for what it provides, you just need to understand the potential quirks with it. Been running reliably for 2 months with no issues.
