There are a lot of hoops that you have to jump through to get it to boot an ubuntu installation. I spent about a week trying and it just never worked, so I just gave up. The big issue is that it requires a specific driver associated with the exact kernel version you are using, and every time your kernel is updated, your system will not boot unless you manually install the driver for the new kernel version. Ubuntu upgraded to kernel version 6 last August, and highpoint still does not have a binary driver that works with it, now 7 months later. In theory you can recompile the open source driver, but that didn't work for me at all.I will say, highpoint support was very responsive. But it just does not work. This was a complete waste of money.

Setup: AMD Ryzen 9 PC with 3x Samsung 990 pro 2TB M.2 drives.Findings: It's fast. Very fast. You will need a x16 PCI-E slot as advertized, so you need a CPU with plenty of PCI-E lanes.I had random issues when using it over some time (3 days or so). Outlook would report that it had nowhere to store it's emails. A benchmark app claimed there wasn't enough diskspace for it's app (30 gb) which wasn't true. And the Highpoint Win app claimed there was no controller available. I am sure all this can be ironed out in driver updates and does not subtract from the score. What does subtract is that the seller will charge you a "restocking fee" of $100+ in case you return it. I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with Amazon customer service to get my full refund. This hidden fee is not mentioned anywhere, so just know that this risk is on you. I was surprised by this move as Amazon has always been very customer service focused and not asked me in the past to own such risks.

Please no one else make the very expensive mistake that I did. I asked HighPoint Support and received an answer, turns out the wrong answer. Now their support tells me the correct answer, but it is too late. I cannot return this for a refund, so I am stuck with a very expensive something that I could have bought a non-bootable version much cheaper. I feel like I have been taken advantage of.So before I bought this I asked if I can use it as a boot device on latest generation Mac Pro. The answer was a resounding yes. So stupid me I believed them and bought it. UNFORTUNATELY it will only work as a boot device if you are running a very very old version of MacOS not 11.x or 12.x (this was never mentioned before). Therefore it is completely useless as a boot device on my Mac Pro running MacOS 12.x.This wouldn't bother me as much if I hadn't asked the question to HighPoint before I bought it. But now, I have carried this to my home in a foreign country, with no way to return it to the US for a refund. Please no one else make the same mistake as me.

Yes it does work. Yes it is bootable. But - one caveat: for a bootable array, there are some UEFI contortions which must be done to be able to boot from it. One additional issue is that you MUST disable Secure Boot. I’ve been waiting with our prototype system for promised updates to the firmware and drivers - still waiting. Issue appears to be that they are Not Microsoft Certified.Yes, Win 11 can be loaded without Secure Boot enabled. But I would argue that it is there for a purpose and why have a requirement to disable any security features?Been doing hardware and software RAID for over 30 years and never had issues with Adaptec or LSI/Avago/Broadcom cards.

I have bought two of these cards, one from HighPoint and one from eBay.They do take some understanding of the underlying tech.A few things to consider:You need a UEFI BIOS to boot from the drives on this card and another version of the firmware. This is not really a RAID card, in that, there is no XOR operations for parity. RAID 0, 1 and 10 are it.This card has a PLX chip which allows it to see more NVME drives than you might have PCIe slots to install them in.You need good airflow in your case and a PCIe X16 or X8 slot to install this and have it work.
