This product is worthless. The main installation component is made of plastic and does not index the insert properly. I managed to get 4 inserts installed - and poorly - before the installation tool would no longer function. DO NOT BUY!

I had never done this sort of repair before, but when it came to possibly losing my carbon fiber bike fork to a stripped bolt hole I figured I would give it a shot. I was able to do the repair in about 15-20 min and saved myself a couple hundred bucks. The only complaint I have about it was that the plastic guide sleeve around the installation tool actually made it harder to get the helicoil into the new threads I cut. I ruined one helicoil, pulled it out, and put a new one back in without the guiding sleeve and it went in just fine. Also, you will need a couple things it doesnt come with. The drill bit I had, but I also had to order a T-handle tap wrench so I could get proper leverage to cut the threads.

Very straightforward to use. Like others said, for M5, use a 4.8 mm or 3/16 drill

I used this to repair a stripped out carburetor. Worked perfectly and there were no leaks on the carb. This item saved me quite a bit of coin. The size sold is of the size of the bolt, screw or threaded hole size. Don't worry too much about the size of the tap itself unless you need to buy a drill bit as it will be bigger than the size you would use normally for the size bolt you have. I actually waited until the product showed up, then I checked to see if I had the correct drill bit. I did so everything went well. I guess if you don't have the bit you need, you can then run out and get a drill bit or a set. Good luck!

This product doesn't come with any instructions but plenty of information including videos are available on-line. I used it on a Dura Ace rear deraillluer cable stop bolt. Worked great!

purchased this because I stripped some threads from over tightening on several mountain bike components. components are aluminum so slightly over tightening will strip the thread, but luckily these thread repair tools exist. if you ever need to use such type system I would not recommend any of the local auto parts thread repair packs. having used them before I was very disappointed with the results. the helicoil kit is an effortless installation and restores threads in a few minutes. great product, very satisfied with results.

Used this to repair 2 stripped threaded holes on an FMF muffler. Worked great. Drilled them out with a 13/64" drill bit (as directed), ran the provided tap (using this ), and installed the heli coil with the provided tool, adding some to keep the heli coil from coming out. This was my first time doing a heli coil and it was surprisingly easy. And the new bolts went it smoothly and without a hitch. Highly recommended!
