This broke in less than a year of use and caused the spout to drip/leak. I went directly through the manufacturer for a replacement and my spout is finally fixed. It seems this was a defective product.

Shower body started leaking after a year from the installation, so I bought a new cartridge , after 2 weeks it was leaking again! I called Grohe since it was still in warranty to send me a new part. It was in February 2024, they said the part will be shipped in 2 days! 7 months later after several phone calls to customer service and being informed that it’s back order they finally send me a wrong cartridge ! And now I see that that stop producing that part and this shower body! Never again I will buy Grohe shower body, faucet! Looks like I need to replace the whole shower body to have it fixed

After installing the new cartridge, I still had leak problems. Turns out the cartridge wasn't defective, but it's correct installation requires lubricating the O-rings at the back of the cartridge, otherwise they will not seat properly. There are no instructions telling you to do this, but Grohe do include a little sachet of plumbers lube in the box. Apparently this prepares the O-ring to seat properly and form a good seal. Barney Wisdom's extremely helpful review entitled "Read this before condemning the cartridge!" saved the day, by explaining how important the seal is and how to address potential problems. I learned about lubricating the seals from Grohe tech support, who were helpful, but I was skeptical that was the actual problem until I saw Barney's explanation in his review. I do fault Grohe for providing no explanation in the box...a little slip of paper would probably forestall MANY tech support calls and frustrated customers!

Turns out it was not the cartridge leaking – it was mineral deposits and or corrosion where the Orings of the cartridge seat on the brass valve body! After installing a new 47995000 cartridge the leak continued. At this point I looked closer at the brass valve body and realized that there were mineral deposits on and around near the inlet surface where the Orings of the cartridge mate/seal, allowing water to pass. After using a coarse and then a finer Scotch Brite pad to thoroughly clean this brass surface, the new cartridge was reinstalled and success! I then reinstalled the original cartridge and surprise – no leaks. So before condemning the cartridge be sure the surface on the valve body is free of deposits or corrosion and completely smooth. Guess I now have a spare cartridge just in case.

It is so difficult to find this part at the hardware stores. It seems like no replacement exists for this brand. Such a big business is the deal with the parts. Prices are kind of way high, I didn't expect that can be so pricey. But finally I have got the part ( delivery is quite long) and after a week with broken shower , to take a shower when all works properly that gives a feeling of luxury we never appreciated before. All good- just expensive. Also not ok there are no parts to fit to replace the brand.

My universal shower cartridge one day suddenly stopped working, these grow cartridges are not very good to begin with and have a record of frequent failure. But I still need to shower so I ordered a used like new version on Amazon. To Amazon's credit it did arrive very quickly in as couple days, showing up in the original box with instructions and a sealed sticker labeled inspected.Problem was the cartridge appeared to be relatively used, but completely unfunctional. The control valve mechanism was completely stripped and therefore wouldn't even turn on at all. Suspect someone swapped out of faulty cartridge and returned it back to Amazon for resale. This is very frustrating as it wastes time and effort. Would have been better to just buy the brand new one from the get-go.Very frustrating and irritable.

I needed it for our Grohe tub/shower system. I gave it a 5 star rating because I was so happy to find a cartridge that seemed to be out of stock everywhere including Grohe Canada. As far as durability, I'm not sure how to rate it. When it works it's fine but... the first one lasted 3 years and our last replacement (2nd) only lasted 1 year. Grohe is reimbursing me for replacements; which is remarkable. I had trouble figuring out how it would fit, not realizing that the end "blue" part pulls off and is not used for my system. Hence it must fit other Grohe systems - hence the title Universal. Grohe Canada product reps were easily accessible to help with my product "fit" problem.

Let's face it, this is not a well design valve unit. Like many reviewers here my original valve was leaking after about 4 years of use. I found this unit on Amazon thinking it's direct replacement. I actually bought 2 and both were leaking immediately after installation. The leaking was actually worst then that original unit's leak. I ended up putting my original broken unit back in and it leaked just as bad.So after looking at something of the pictures from other reviewers I can understand how the internal mechanism works. Looks like if you tight too much it will push the disk against the 2 inner O ring thus messing up the seal. I ended up loosen the nut around the valve and it works much better now. Let's see if this new unit will last me another few years. Fingers cross...
