Long story short (TLDR), you might want to check what kind of electrical box is in use on your house if you want this to fit with minimal effort. (Basically, if your electrical box has a flange that sits proud of the wall, then this light will likely NOT fit.)My house was built in 2014, so it is not old by any means. However, the electrical boxes I have on the outside of my house do not work with this light. My electrical boxes are the kind that have a flange around the outside (known as "Old Work" or "Retrofit" electrical boxes). The electrical box slides through a hole in the sheathing, but the flange prevents it from falling through. The flange is also used to screw the box to the sheathing. Hope that makes sense, but the problem is, the flange interferes with the mounting ring for the light. Even if it didn't, the base of the light is the same width as the flange, so the flange would show.My old lights used a different mounting ring (they look like an X and are called "Offset Swivel Crossbars"), which works fine with the flange. The old mounting ring would work fine, but the base of the light is too small in diameter to cover the flange of the electrical box. The base is also slightly too shallow to work with the old mounting ring (again it is an X style mount), meaning I can't screw the base of the light fixture tight against the wall. It's a nice fixture, so I am going to keep the fixture and replace the electrical boxes (or something). However, I believe with minimal adjustments to the size of the fixtures mounting base, the fixture would work with both styles of electrical boxes and mounting systems.
