Gates Timing Belt Component Kits with Water Pump offer customers the best and most complete repair solution by including the same premium components as our TCK’s - timing belts, pulleys and tensioners - as well as a water pump. Timing belt driven water pumps should always be replaced at the same time as the timing belt. Don't take chances. With Gates TCKWP’s, you can avoid returns by replacing all critical system components at the same time.

This kit has 110,000 KM on the car and until now perform very well. I did not install the water pump since the OEM was working very well an still does .

2013 Subaru WRX STI here;Changed the timing belt on my EJ257. Everything went relatively well for the first 2 months. Then the tensioner went. Luckily I caught the noise before it caused catastrophic engine failure, as almost all Subaru engines run with interference valves. This is now the 4th engine I've done, all of which were tuned and upgraded to about 330hp. Never had a failure.I followed the proper bleeding process for the tensioner as per the included instructions. Gates used to be a good manufacturer, but their quality and reliability has gone down the tube. I don't think I'll ever buy one of the Gates kits again, and I'd recommend the same for everyone else. Very disappointing and nearly caused a very, very expensive engine failure.

Authentic and real gates timing kit. Though the product states all the components are made in Japan most of the bearings are made in China. I became aware that gates started sourcing parts out a while back and I knew about the Chinese bearings beforehand. But I have ran these recent kits in multiple cars and they all perform without any issue and still the same gates quality. I wouldn’t worry about the Chinese parts at all.

I have a 2005 Legacy GT and purchased the kit with a good bit of hesitation based on some reviews I read. I saw enough positive reviews to take a chance; but did go ahead and purchase the OEM gasket for the water pump. I also replaced the fasteners on the water pump. They have to be torqued, and it is best not to take chances on the original fasteners.I would recommend this kit. I probably should have gone with the OEM water pump; but didn't. I've had no problems since replacing my timing belt and water jump in early January. I agree that some of the pieces are from China, but the parts from Japan are clearly marked as well. This is a great deal compared to OEM; but plan ahead carefully!.

After 9,000 miles and 18 months (warranty is 12 mths/12,000 mi whichever is sooner) my new Gates water pump is leaking through the weep hole. This is COMPLETELY HORRIBLE! Subaru water pumps last well over 100,000 miles. I changed mine preventatively when doing the timing belt, idlers and tensioner, all from this kit at 80,000 miles/12 years old WRX/STi.After reading up on this, Gates has changed to a Chinese water pump that is complete crap. I am now worried about the other components from this kit. It is a major job to install the belt, idlers, tensioner, pump and thermostat. To have to redo the water pump in such a short time is terrible.DO NOT BUY THIS KIT. Buy original OEM Subaru components. It is an interference engine and now I have Chinese junk installed.

Kit seemed like it had quality components, only small issue is that the belt I received never had timing marks. Easy to compare and mark though. Everything was nicely packaged and went together smooth.

I installed this kit with help from a friend in my 2008 Legacy GT. Everything in the kit was very nice quality. The water pump gasket was a rubbery coated metallic type, and I didn't need to put any sealant on it. It all went together in about 5-6 hours with me taking my time and pulling the radiator to get at it. I replaced the radiator hoses, as well as the hose clamps while I had them out. I flushed the coolant and replaced it all with the blue SUBARU long life coolant from the dealer. I've put 5k on the car since the swap and haven't had any issues. I noticed when I replaced the tensioner and idler pulleys some of them were looser and noises then the new ones, obviously they were due for a change, glad I did! The only goofy part was when installing the water pump, the two gaskets were a little hard to get into the right place. Patience is key during that step.

Installed on 2007 wrx. It's good quality considering the price. I picked mine up when it was listed for $240. I've recommended this to all my friends that drive a subi 2.5L in need of timing belt Everything installed smooth. My car was at 140k km when I did it, do not wait that long as I had small crack in the belt. Lucky it didn't snap..

Good kit. Includes belt spacer shim which is very important to set the 1mm distance to the crank guide and the others on the corners - don't forget! The water pump gasket is metal, better than other kits that give you a cheap paper gasket. I usually put a very very thin skim of Permatex ultragrey on it as well.A new thermostat gasket is included, but not a thermostat. Recommend you buy a genuine Subaru unit to go with this kit. Remember to install the jiggle valve up so the air bleeds out correctly!A packet of Loctite is included, I usually use blue Loctite. Remember to torque the bolts correctly. I just replaced a pulley where someone had torqued it like an animal, the seals eventually broke and bearings went everywhere. If the belt had jumped any more teeth the engine would have been destroyed.

I bought the Gates Timing Belt Kit for my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT and did the installation in one afternoon. Everything arrived as expected, and made the timing belt change easy to do. The price was right with the kit too vs the OEM parts. One thing to note on the kit though, the stock OEM water pump gasket was a thin metal gasket, and the Gates replacement was either paper or fabric.During installation, the paper/fabric replacement gasket ripped. So I re-used the metal OEM gasket, if I were to do it over again, I would have purchased a new OEM gasket to use instead of the one supplied with the kit.Other than that, I highly recommend this kit!!

I ordered an OEM water pump gasket at the same time as this kit because I read a bunch of reviews across the internet, including here, stating the gasket included with this kit is cheap, made of paper, and tears. The gasket included with the kit I received definitely isn't paper; it's metal. It's actually slightly thicker and heavier than the OEM gasket. I opted to use it over the OEM, as it is being paired with a Gates pump. I'd recommend waiting until you get the kit before ordering an OEM gasket; you might save yourself a few bucks.I'm very happy with the kit. All parts are high quality. No problems with the install. The guide spacer is a nice bonus.
