This "Brand Name" kit was LESS than half the price of my local auto parts store and worked like a charm!

Don't buy if you want a good spring. I installed the original spring because even used it is better than the spring provided. Otherwise its a decent unit I hope.

I needed to replace my timing belt on my 2002 Mazda Protege 5 (and actually I was thousands of miles past when I needed to do it) and after calling a couple mechanics I figured out I could save a bunch of money by ordering this belt component kit (and water pump) and bringing it so my mechanic. I know Gates makes great belts so it was an easy choice of what belt to order for replacement. The mechanic was impressed by how complete this set was and had the belt change and me on my way in short order.Ordering parts from Amazon is so much more convenient than going down to the auto parts store and most often much cheaper.

Perfect fit on my 2003 Protege5. Fairly easy to install, it wasn't that hard, just took a lot of time. I started Saturday morning and finished Sunday afternoon, fortunately these Mazda Protege5's are non-interference motors. It's been on since Feb. 2016, and it is now Dec. 2016, I haven't had an issue yet.

I did a pre-emtive timing belt change on my sons 2001 Mazda 626 l4, at 150k miles which was pushing it for my taste. This is a very high quality belt and Gates a high quality automotive parts company, I also purchased thier water pump as when you do this job you have to tear out so much you have the water pump staring you in the face with 6 easy bolts to remove, if you dont replace it it a total tear down all over again, that is same amount of time and same parts to remove to get at the pump, so do it there and then. The tensioner spring was also included, other vendors do not include this in their kits so thats a plus. The belt was a perfect fit and the idler and tensioner where identical form fit and function to the OEM parts, really couldn't tell any difference physically but I'm sure these are better mechanically. Is it necessary to change the idler or the tensioner, well maybe not but you really should buy this set and replace all at once as I said above, if you button it up and the bearing goes bad on the ldler or tensioner you will look back and wish you had done it. With the exception of changing a belt that broke for some reason early in life always replace all components.

Prior to receiving this kit, the question I had was does it include the tensioner spring. Nowhere in the product description does it mention the spring, which is vital for completing a timing belt job and this spring is difficult to get from local auto parts suppliers. I am very pleased that this kit DOES include the tensioner spring along with the timing tensioner, idler pulley and Gates belt. All the components appear to be very high quality, as expected from an outstanding manufacturer such as Gates. Don't forget to order a new water pump and valve cover gasket. The water pump is driven by the timing belt and since the timing belt replacement is a job that you will not want to do again, it makes sense to change the pump while you're there. A high quality Gates or Beck Arnley water pump is what I would recommend and they are available through Amazon. Also, the valve cover has to be removed for this job so to prevent oil leaks, replace the gasket. For the gasket, I would recommend Felpro or Beck Arnley which are both available through Amazon. Buy the best so you only do the job once. Happy wrenching!

I purchased this kit to use on a 2003 Mazda protege ES with a 2.0L FS engine. The original belt had 101K miles on it and according to the service manual the belt should be replaced around 100K miles. My engine had developed a cold start squeek and I narrowed it down to the water pump or belt tensioner bearing. Since you have to remove the timing belt and tensioner to replace the water pump I replaced them both at the same time. The kit comes with the belt, tensioner and guide pulleys as well as a new tensioner spring. Everything fit great and there were no problems. I saved $150 buying this on Amazon vs the local auto chains. Same exact kit!

After doing much hunting for this kit at a reasonable price, Amazon had the best deal compared to most auto parts sites. Bought it for my 03 Mazda Protege5 and my mechanic had no problem with it. He was even happy that I'd gotten the kit because it includes the other parts needed when replacing a timing belt for maintenance. Not really much more to say. It does what it's supposed to. I learned that Gates took over making these for Mazdas, so while it may not be the original oem, it's the new oem, if you will.Leaving a 5 star review so people can see that this part is legit. :p

Changed my timing belt on my mazda and wanted GATES, and I definitely got it, product was good, belt was perfect condition as well as the other parts, I saved a ton of money, the belt itself goes for 50 dollars in NYC. So this is definitely worth the price considering you get the pulleys which btw are made in japan, not china.
