It disperses the light over a wider area for a softer, more balanced and natural effect than you didn't use before. It helps to reduce hard background shadows and eliminates the annoying red eye effect. Specifications: Dimension(cm): 7.6×7.1×3.0, Product Weight: 1 ounce

Its a handy little diffuser but I don't think the result is as nice as the standard diffusers you get with the flash. It tends to sink down over the flash as you use it and subsquently the diffusion of light tends to get degraded. It is handy though and I do like it.

Nice size and easy to use. I did have one issue, when I was using it with manual settings the flash did not always fire. It seemed to fire every time if I had the camera on automatic or a scene mode. I use my camera pretty well at 80% manual mode and so I am not happy about this. Is there a reason why this is happening?

I didn't have a chance to use this until recently but I found that this could be quite a handy thing to have. This produces a slightly softer light than the diffusers that come with flash units. I have a Nikon SB700 and Rokinon D970VL where this cap is used. I tend to use this one when I'm doing a direct flash slightly farther away. Example would be a head and shoulders shot with my Sigma 18-250mm at roughly the 180/200mm range - about 10 ft away. The elastic band holds well but is a little awkward to get on the flash heads. Works well as a sidelight when used on a slave unit. This is quite small and doesn't take up any space in the bag, so can be very convenient.

Any diffuser takes away at least 1 stop of light, which means you loose a bit of light and need to make up for it in camera settings. Either bump up the ISO or bring down the f stop. There are a couple other factors when choosing a diffuser. The larger the diffuser the softer the light. The softer the light, the less intense the image. Also the distance between the light source and the diffuser makes a big difference. That is why you see most professional photographers use huge softboxes. Not because they are impressive to look at, but because they actually spread the light. Volumes have been written about lighting a subject. These are lightweight, easy to put on the speedlite, store compactly and take up virtually no room in your bag but do little to soften the light. There are tons of diffusers coming out of China each year. They are all basically the same, a semi-transparent sheet of material that covers the flash. The difference is in the form, not the function. If this helps you, please click on the YES button "was this review helpful". Thank you.
