My first test with these bits was one of the more challenging use cases - I wanted to do a round semicircular cutout on the edge of a piece of plywood. I set my drill press speed pretty slow and drilled without using a sacrificial abutted piece. The multiple teeth made a clean cut, and with some light sanding I had a good finished piece.I like the bits, I like the range of sizes, and I like the case.

This is a beginner's set of Forstner bits...but it's still a good deal.You are getting a lot for your coin here, just do not expect it to be at a 'everyday' do it all set.This will be for the occasional carpenter who needs some every now and then.That being said, it's a nice set and pretty darn complete. The case is adequate and the clear front allows you to see how many bits you have misplaced (cough).An 'everyday' set will set you back well over $150 dollars right up to over $250 dollars.Realize you are getting a good deal to get going.Recommended.

I love these bits, they're sharp and move wood with ease. The cut is true and clean regardless if its hardwood or soft. I like that you have a nice case to keep them organized and together as well as, a see thru plexiglass window in the lid of the case so you can see which size you need before opening it up. These came wrapped in plastic bags and greased to prevent rust prior to receiving them. I removed the bags upon opening them up so I could inspect the bits real well and they are well made of high carbon steel instead of stainless which means you could potentially sharpen them if they get dull. I have already used several sizes being that I wood work on a frequent basis and these drill perfect holes every time without effort in my drill press. Overall if you are looking for a budget set or a good starter set of this type bit this is a great set for the money! I would highly recommend these for purchase if you are starting wood working or experienced they are good bits and a good value. I personally do not think you will be disappointed with this set, of course if you want to spend a lot of money. Rockler will be glad to sell you the same number of bits in a set for 399.99$ so..... These might not last as long but, for a part time wood worker these are perfect for me and I think you will agree with me, bang for the buck these are pretty dang good.

Lots of sizes, 1/4” up to 2-1/8” in 1/8” increments – 16 bits in total. Not the best forstner bits in the world, but you're not going to find anything better at this price. The cutting edges are a bit rough, though sufficient. Cuts soft wood well, harder woods will take their toll. Probably not the go-to bits for a high-quality finish project where the cuts are prominent – for that I'd up my game to higher quality (and much more expensive) carbide tipped bits. But as always, mileage varies depending on how the bit is used and maintained.Bits come well oiled and bagged (no chance for rust) in a very handy plastic storage case with clear cover.

This review is for SAWSAVVY Forstner Bit Set 16Pcs Hex Shank, Wood Drill Bits Set, $41 on amazon.This SAWSAVVY forstner bit set is similar to a Porter Cable set of bits (PC1014) that I have so I will compare them to each other.The see-through plastic carry cases are almost identical.Porter Cable set currently selling new for $56 on amazon whereas this SAWSAVVY set is currently selling for $41 on amazon.Size ranges are slightly different:Porter Cable range is ¼” to 2” whereas the SAWSAVVY range is ¼” up to 2-1/8”My Porter Cable set is 14 pieces = 13 different sizes (two ¼” bits) whereas this SAWSAVVY set is 16 pieces = 16 different sizes.My Porter Cable bits are open tooth design whereas the SAWSAVVY teeth are saw tooth design.Height of tooth above back of 2” diameter bit is 0.69” for Porter Cable and 0.55” for SAWSAVVYDiameter of shank (for larger bits) is 3/8” for each but the SAWAVVY shank is hex shape to prevent slippage in the 3 jaw chuck drill.Cutting performance in wood is similar for each.

Never heard of sawsavvy before, although branding in this way is quite fitting. Before this review, I went on to check out the store and see what else they carry. It appears the maker is likely some lathe specialist company who make a bunch of turned and heat treated tools. Not a lot in their offering, but they are all cheap and appear to be pretty good replica tools from branded counter parts.This set has 16 sizes which cover most common needs from 1/4" to about 2.5" which is a pretty big range. Instead of using step drills, these cutters provide a precise hole and handles a lot of different applications. The shank appears to be some strong heat treated steel coated with black oxide. The hex shaft doesn't have a recess for spring locking into an impact wrench. But does provide the best bite platform from a drill chuck. The shiny part of the bit does need to be greased constantly. On some sizes that I don't use much, without care they already saw some minor rusting from some dry shank areas. The cutters are very sharp and does work well to cut holes through wood rather easily. Be aware and go slow on the hardwoods as these will rip up some splinter if you aren't patient with the wood you're cutting. I've used this set twice so far, and in both occasions it's got good results for me. These are sold on Amazon at a fraction of the cost of some Blue and Red branded ones at the local box chains. Not bad at all.
