Actual Socket Diameter of a 1/2" PVC Ell Fitting
Why is are PVC fitting sockets bigger than their named size?
PVC sizes get their name from the inner diameter of the PVC pipe as they are nominal, or 'in name only'. If you add the thickness of the wall on each side of the pipe, the outside diameter of the PVC pipe will always be larger that the actual PVC size.
What will this 1/2" PVC 90-Degree Elbow fit?
Important PVC Size Information
This 1/2" 90-Degree Elbow Furniture Grade PVC Fitting will fit over the end of standard 1/2" Size Schedule 40 plumbing-grade or Furniture Grade PVC pipe, which has an outside diameter of 0.840" or 13/16".
- Connects two (2) 1/2" PVC pipe segments to create perfect 90-Degree angles for PVC pipe structures.
- Pipe inserts inside of the fitting.
- Fits standard 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe.
- Not compatible with CTS or CPVC style pipe, EMT conduit or wood dowels.
How to Use 90-Degree Elbow Fittings
When to use PVC 90 Ells in your Project
Furniture Grade 90 Degree PVC Ells connect two (2) segments of PVC pipe to structure edges, handles, and 90-Degree angle supports. PVC pipe can be inserted directly into each socket, creating a smooth, heavy-duty right-angle connection.
Insert the PVC Pipe into the 90-Degree Fitting
Cut your PVC pipe segments to size, align the PVC pipe with the PVC 90 Degree fitting socket and press it into place. Repeat for the other socket. If preferred, you can use clear PVC cement for a secure and permanent fit: Apply a small amount inside the 90 Degree Fitting PVC fitting before insertion.
Tap into Place until Fully Seated in the Ell
Tap each PVC pipe until it is fully seated inside the 90 PVC Ell fitting. The pipe should be inserted until it hits the stop or detent inside the fitting. You can then use the PVC 90 in the remainder of your PVC project or build.
