ABOUT FLEXTONE
There are people who just talk about getting things done. Then there are people who see opportunity,
roll up their sleeves and do it. Flextone developed at the hands of doers who weren't satisfied with
game calls on the market and decided to make their own. The calls' designs use a soft, flexible body to
mimic throat tissue, while a hard reed plays the role of vocal box.

I bought the Flextone Lightning Owl for turkey hunting, and it’s been a game-changer. The oversized barrel and flexible design create incredibly realistic, loud owl calls that really help locate gobblers. The tone button is a great feature for getting those high-pitched screams just right. That said — this call does take practice. You can’t just blow into it and expect perfect results. It requires some skill and effort to master, but once you get the hang of it, it’s incredibly effective. Honestly, any reviews less than 5 stars are probably from folks who didn’t take the time to learn how to use it properly. For hunters willing to put in the time, this is a fantastic addition to your kit.

This is very cool and I will say you do have to break it in from being so hard(the plastic it’s made from) . This call is perfect once you get the hand of it. I now have a screech owl that responds to it every night.

Don't waste your money! I haven't been able to get realistic northeastern owl sounds out of it. I was hoping to replace my Knight & Hale owl hooter (since they're not making turkey calls anymore) 😢 Didn't return it immediately thinking maybe it's me not working it right..... No... This call sucks! Have to stick with the K&H being held together with gorilla tape.

Flextone’s Lightning Owl is an extremely flexible hunting call; it’s without a doubt the most adaptable locator, and quite possibly the most versatile mouth call on the market. The Lightning Owl is a precision calling instrument that requires very keen pressure on the reed, and at precise angles, in order to produce various tones. That said, I wouldn’t recommend this call for beginners. It takes a lot of work to master the techniques of the Lightning Owl, and even then, it takes practice in order to pick it up and produce perfect sounds without a warm-up routine. On this particular locator, to produce any sound worth hunting with requires a tremendous amount of breath, skill, and a certain level of aggression as well—but it can be done. Varying the amount of pressure that you apply to the reed will enable you to best mimic the species of owl that inhabits your turkey woods. When testing the tone, pinch very gently at first, and then apply more pressure to increase the pitch, until you’ve got the pitch just right. You can also purse your lips to heighten the pitch if need be. Force more air for greater volume and backpressure, and really dig deep to shock that gobbler into next week.My favorite technique for shocking toms is the owl scream. It’s a territorial sound that owls make when confronted by another of their kind: HOOOO-ooooh! It hits those gobblers like a lightning bolt. Every now and then I like to shake it up a little and throw in a “who-cooks-for-you” instead; my preference is to hammer the WHO-COOKS hard, in a loud and commanding tone, in order to aim for the shock-gobble. I think it’s actually a little easier to vary the volume on the Lightning Owl, which is why I mention these techniques. The scream’s decrescendo, as well as the individual morphemic components of the who-cooks sequence, both demand smooth but almost instantaneous changes in volume. Flextone’s Lightning Owl gives me the mastery over volume that I need in order to shock the gobblers while keeping it real.Once a tom has shock-gobbled, the job is done for most locators. Not so with the Lightning Owl. In addition to belting out territorial owl vocalizations, this fine call can replicate a wide gamut of different animal sounds. The ones that come easily to me are:Black bears: sow moans and boar threatsDove coosCoyote pup yip-yapsPrey distressAnd depending on your ability (and creativity), there are likely many, many more. I’m not saying you should leave your specialized calls at home in lieu of the Lightning Owl; but it’s always a good thing to have some extra sounds under the belt for when you have a chance run-in with some open-season varmint in need of a shotgun blast. Hey! You never know.Again: Without practice, many of the additional, non-owl cries that the Lightning Owl can produce will sound just plain weird. You get out of this call what you put into it. If you’re not quite there yet, but still want to give the Lightning Owl a try in your turkey woods, consider practicing in the truck and getting the sound right, before venturing out to your setup. Then again, Lightning Owl is one of those calls that some hunters who try it will simply never get the hang of it. Just like diaphragms, wing bone yelpers, and other reputedly difficult calling instruments, the Lightning Owl will prove unusable for some hunters who don’t have the time (or patience) to master it. Even if I allowed this to affect my rating of this product, mine would still be a 5-star review; the Lightning Owl is that good.I’m not trying to oversell the Lightning Owl; but it truly is a marvelous call, and if you do decide that it’s worth the time and practice, then you will be rewarded with a broad spectrum of tonal possibilities. Give it a shot.
