Couldn't say that there were any real "savings" to be had by buying this aftermarket brand, when it barely lasted a month, whereas the Holmes brand I used the year before, was still good after 3 months. Was able to soak and rinse the Holmes brand and use it for another month the next winter. The Fette brand one just disintegrated within five minutes of being in cool water. The second filter in the package was the same. And even worse, they didn't even "wick" the moisture out -- had to re-wet them every day. Not worth the money on any level! Wouldn't take them if they were free -- my time spent trying to get these filters to actually wick is worth more than the cost of them.

The thickness of the wick is about 1/4" or more thinner than all prior filters that we've ever bought or ordered. With them thinner I doubt we're getting as much moisture output as a thicker filter would do. They've just been in 2 weeks so I can't say how long they'll last. My hunch is they'll dry out faster.Recommend using an anti-bacteria liquid to add to the water for the humidifier. Prolongs filter life on past filters.

i would have given it 5 stars but it always gets clogged in a month or two. i am also using humidifier tabs with this but if you stop the machine for a day it builds up white crystals. yes i have average hard water but build up is bit much. i get one set of 6 a year. how i use it is i have the humidifier on 24/7. that seem to give it the longest life. don't stop the machine or run out of water and you will have longest life out of these. i guess i replace the filter every two months. Beside that it works great. i am a return customer for years. price is little higher than others but i cant trust the others.

Holmes 1285 humidifier has a gauge to indicate the life viability of a filter. The gauge is registering on the high end. The unit kicked right on when this replacement was inserted. No instructions, but, I soaked it before use. Only working for 48 hours, but I expect normal use and life. Price is competitive. Incidentally, my unit is not listed among machines that use this particular filter. But my Holmes 1285 specifies use of this filter.
