Bought these as hides/breeding caves for my plecos. I like that these came in a wider diameter so they'll be able to "grow into them". Although not purchased for their intended use, I was worried some may come broken but the packaging was more than adequate and all made it safely to me.I have a few left over so I'll likely pop those into some of my larger houseplants to try. Seems to me to be a well made product.

Terrible-drains water way too quickly into soil and kills plants. I have this same product from a better manufacturer and am not having that issue.

The first batch sent had two broken stakes. I did have to return the box to get a new set, which was fine with me, it just took a few extra days. They are very thin, so I'm not surprised at the breakage. I was very careful installing them and so far no breakage! Way easier to use than the plastic insert spikes. Perfect size for a winde bottle but Ive also used an olive oil bottle. Don't suggest plastic milk jugs because, while they fit, the wind blows them away once they're empty.

I have been using these for about a month in very hot weather in my outdoor flower pots. After reading reviews I was very careful removing them from great packaging. I soaked them first . I then used long gardening weed remover to help me make a hole and gently pushed them into the dirt level with soil as directed. I have been using wine bottles. Fill the bottle and put your finger over the top as you turn it upside down into the clay feeder. Each bottle has been lasting about a week. I have not removed any yet but so far am very pleased. They work!

I can't say enough good things about this product. When you get the stake down in the soil really well, and put your water in it, it will last for several days. In some of the larger pots, I used a 2 liter Coke bottle and in smaller pots, I used a 16 oz Coke bottle. This kept my plants healthy and alive while we were on a full 10-day vacation at the first of June. They were thirsty when we arrived home but in good health. I would recommend this product 100%.So why the four star review? One of the clay stakes came completely smashed, and the other one was cracked down the side. The packaging was decent but in shipping these can be a bit fragile. The one with the crack I have been able to seal with a non-toxic water sealant. The other one of course was just thrown away. Some helpful tips that I have learned is:1. Try to get the steak down into the dirt all the way to the first top ridge on the pottery. This will help ensure the water is going into the dirt for the plant and not going into the pottery because it's dry.2. To get the most water storage fill up the steak with water before you put your bottle in it. Doesn't sound like much but you would be surprised how much it holds.3. If you're going to use these outside, it is better to use room temperature water to fill up your bottles. If not, and you put cold water in them, when you go outside in the heat they will tend to contract and you lose some of your water storageI will definitely be ordering another set!

I love the quality and versatility of the watering spikes. First off great for watering plants that are big or high up on a shelf. Makes watering less of a chore. Then their is the odd use like fish cave in aquarium. Fish spawning cave or fish breeding tower.

I used old wine bottles, old juice bottles, and old glass vinegar bottles in these watering stakes. They worked well and kept my indoor plants watered for more than 2 weeks. I bet they would work well outdoors too. I read that these were fragile so I pre-dug the holes in the dirt in the pots and had no problem with any stakes breaking. Unfortunately these are quite big so I could not use them in pots that were smaller (less than 6" in diameter).

If you forget to water your plants, get these! I've used them for all varieties of plants and vegetables. As expected, some plants like lettuce and bigger plants, are "thirstier" and will require more refills – 2 days max, and possibly more in direct sun and high temps. I put 2 per planter box for the plants that require more water. Plants in shade, or indoors seem to manage with less water.I read other reviews that claimed these don't work, but I've had good success. Just run them under water, add a bottle of water and you're good to go!CAUTION – these are terracotta and can be a bit brittle. Handle carefully and you should be ok. I did brak one trying to move it in the dirt with a bit too much force.

I guess you get what you pay for with these. You get a bunch of them which is nice but they are so thin and flimsy. Upon arrival one was broken and first time I tried to put one into one of my plants I broke three in a row trying to push them into the soil.If you put any pressure on them whatsoever they frequently just start cracking and crumbling. The terra-cotta is ultra delicate because of how thin it is so you have to dig the hole for it before you try to put it into the soil. And for sure do not try to push down from the bottle once it’s in the soil.If you really want to chance putting pressure on these once it’s in the soil, gently push down from the top of the terra-cotta spike. Sometimes you can successfully ease them down another millimeter or two once they are in the soil this way but it’s risky as it does break them sometimes too.I’m not giving it zero starts because they are cheap for so many of them per order and once you do finally get one into a plant successfully you’re ok as long as you stick it back into the hole it was in after carefully removing and refilling bottles.A standard wine bottle seems to last about two to three weeks in my one gallon pots. But obviously it depends on house temp and humidity as well as how thirsty your plant is.I’m can’t give them my stamp of total approval but they also get the job done once you handle them with caution. If you don’t mind messing around with them more then it’s a good deal if you want to save money and have a lot of plants.
