I purchased three of these to stop cars from pulling though our semi-circle drive in front of our house. We installed two on posts at either side of the drive and ordered the optional base to place one in the middle of the drive, so that it can be easily moved for snow removal. This has been the perfect solution since our guests can still pull up to the front door and when they leave we walk out with them and remove the chain, or we unhook it before when we are expecting guests. No they do not look like cast iron unless you generally mistake black plastic for cast iron but they are an attractive substitute for bollards which cost at least four times the price. If you intend to hook and unhook the chain frequently then you will want to add a snap "S" hook between the fixed "S" and chain provided. I also needed a few additional feet of chain to space these nine feet apart but was able to use the chain provided by connecting the six foot lengths with the extra fixed "S" attachments. Extra chain can be purchased at Home Depot.
