There are so many adjustments on this pedal, that I am still fine-tuning it at gigs. I have been a professional drummer for over 35 years, and this is by far the best pedal I have ever owned (Better than Tama's Iron Cobra, or Pearl's Eliminator or Demon Drive). VERY solid construction, and No rattles. Works great out-of-the-box, but can easily be adjusted a little or a lot to get the right balance and feel that you want.

A little pricey, but DW quality is always top notch. This is my first direct drive pedal & I love it over my usual chain driven pedals. Go ahead & treat yourself.

Nice pedal, well built. I'm not a fan of the beater, I will replace it with solid wood or hard felt ball.

Built really nicely to the eye, but a gimmick overall. For a heavy unit it feels nice and light and is completely customizable, from beater weight to height drop, cam forward, cam backward, tension adjust is a breeze, lovely looking thing........ however, the footplate it is all built on is thin and flexible. It wont play anymore (after a few months playing) properly because it needs a totally flat floorand bends out of shape so one end sits up.It doesn't stay gripped on the bass drum and moves to an angle thats unplayable. Its really put me off buying the flagship hi hat stand now. Really disappointing at any price.Great idea, beautifully crafted ...... and all loaded onto a cheap nasty bendy footplate so it bananas back and forth.Shame.

This kick is....EPIC! It's so responsive. It goes wherever your foot goes. You can definitely lay down some sick beats with this thing. I LOVE it! Plus....its it's FULLY customizable. The beater face, the weight of the beater, the footplate, literally the entire thing. It's amazing. Buy it.

Nice pedals But.....my problem was with the Heal plate. First of all I have played with many pedals. I have had DW 5000 and 9000. This DW direct drive does have some cool adjustments for foot plate tension, height, beater angel. The beaters themselves I liked and they even have separate weights you can install in the beater heads for a desired weight. I played with these for about a week and I returned them. I am sure other people will feel different or have different experiences with these but for me the fact was I could do anything on my Yamaha Flying Dragons and my older Tama Iron Cobras that I could do with these plus I actually didn't like the feel of this giant heal plate in the arch of my foot while playing heal up. I think DW should offer this as well with a version with no heal plate. There is a DVD with Joe Morello and he shows his DW pedal. It is a cool red pedal with no heal plate. DW doesn't make it anymore. You can still find them and their $$ not cheap for one. But Joe explained that having the heal of your foot down on a heal plate made him feel almost like as if you were playing a conga or bongo drum with the palm of your hands touching the drum while you play. Joe felt that by having your foot sort of resting more free and using the natural way your foot pivots was better. Then he gave an example of himself playing flat footed the way he and most jazz guys do, and man was it ripping fast! It was so impressive it made me admire single bass action as it surely should be that way. I think that DW is a top company I have nothing bad to say about them or these pedals. just for me it held me back and I could feel this large block being the heal plate in the arch of my foot area while I played. Once I got back on my Yamaha or Iron Cobra pedals I was so much more able to exercise that fast metal rip or just pop along with what ever. If I ever buy another set of pedals for my twin bass drums it will be a couple of Trick (also made in USA) pedals with no heal plates. They also have the ability to tighten tension within the footboard. This was my third similar experience with DW bass drum pedals. I don't really like the way they feel. DW loose the heal plate by tucking it under the foot board.
