My cat is longer haired and chunky, not a good combination because it makes it harder for her to groom herself. She tends to get tangles on her back near her tail as well as the neck area and where her torso and front legs meet. This tool has been a life saver! It generally takes more time than she has patience for to loosen a mat but with this, I am able to get them out a lot more quickly, which is good for both of us. I definitely recommend it for cats and dogs. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's worth it! Much better than other grooming tools I have tried

It really works well! This tool is great for getting rid of tangles and mats in my dog’s fur. The steel rake helps to break up those stubborn knots without pulling too hard, which makes it comfortable for my dog. The detangling comb is perfect for smoothing out the fur afterwards. It’s easy to use and doesn’t make my dog feel uncomfortable. My only issue is that it can be a bit heavy to handle for long grooming sessions.

I have a German Shepherd x Husky mix and this tool has been a LIFE SAVER. I am brushing her constantly but her hair always seems to knot up within hours. My only note would be to be careful when holding the tool because it's very very sharp.

I have gone through so many different tools to help get rid of matted fur with my Malti-poo dog. My dog for some reason likes to run around and scrape his face and body around the carpeting which makes his fur bundle up into matted furballs. we either have to cut them off with scissors or try to brush the mated furballs out which is really hard to do without the dog complaining or running away. For the first few month of getting my dog I was really dilligent about brushing him but after he started exhibiting the scraping on the carpet behavior, I kind of gave up and just started cutting off his fur. Now that I have the Pupwell dematting tool it makes it much easier to cut away the mats. The Pupwell dematting tool has a wooden handle and a metal comb style top with long tines that have sharp edges to help cut away the fur. These long tines really do work well with long haired dogs like mine. The handle grip is comfortable and combing the fur with this tool is fun and satisfying when you start seeing how well maintained your furry friend is.

This is a very simple defatting tool - it's been working well so far. Conceptually - it looks like a comb, but instead of normal comb teeth, it basically has a bunch of knives - the knives have a wave pattern on the cutting edge - but are rounded on the tip and the back, so it can safely come in contact with skin. They do a good job getting between the mat and the skin to cut it up into pieces. You do have to be careful and work it through a bit - coming at both angles. It also has a nice metal piece to put your thumb over it so you can get better control without worrying about cutting your finger on the blades. My personal pets didn't really need this - it works fine as a comb. But I do work in a veterinary hospital - and I brought it to work to put it through the wringer. It does a pretty decent job on smaller and medium sized mats, but it does require a lot of work with larger mats. We've also used it as a comb to keep the mat away from the skin, which we can then cut with scissors or clippers and keep the patient safe (dogs and cats - I'd be worried rabbit skin is too thin to use this item).I'm really hoping that people use this product to get rid of their pet's matted fur - so they dont' have to spend a ton of money to see us in a hospital just to get a bad haircut. This is really something that ought to be able to be managed at home - and you'll be less likely to look like your vet is a drunken barber.

Love this product. My doodle had a small mat and this combed it right out. Easy to use and comfortable to hold. Definitely recommend.

Very nice dematting tool for dogs with long fur and thick undercoats. It helps a lot with the endless grooming of two giant breed, double coated dogs who shed constantly and swim all the time causing lots of little mats. I would certainly recommend this tool.

This is my second grooming tool from Pupwell and I am consistently impressed with the quality. This is well made and thoughtfully designed for comfort and effectiveness. I used this with our little poodle so I can't attest to how this would work on larger dog mats, but for a small pup it made quick work of small knots.
