The Suburito is a specialized ancient training weapon that's meant to simulate the weight of a real Japanese sword. Primarily intended for solo practice or cutting drills, it inspires respect, as it hits with terrific force. Our interpretation was inspired by a wooden Suburito in Akido 5th Dan, Andrew Demko's private collection. Our President, Lynn C. Thompson trained with it for several months, and resolved to create one for Cold Steel. Injection molded from virgin high strength polypropylene with a long handle and square tip, it's enormously resistant to breaking and will never shrink, rot, crack or splinter like a wooden Suburito is prone to do. It's built to provide many years of hard service and, if used faithfully, it will surely make you a better swordsman. It has an elegant wood grain finish and bears the five major precepts of Japanese sword cutting, written in Kanji characters.

If you’re in the market for a proper training bokken, look no further. Blown away by the quality, weight, balance and durability of this beautiful suburito bokken. The price is an absolute steal!! I’ve been wielding it since it arrived!!

Excellent for swinging as exercise and stretching. It is heavier than the normal size ones and I can feel my muscles working to control it. I only got for work out (and no one messes with someone walking on the street with a big stick) while walking the dog. I don't use it to hit anything or for fighting of any kind. The grip is easy to hold onto. It is well made, smooth without plastic flash and I can't imagine it ever breaking. Definitely could break bones if you got hit with this.

Impressive molded sculpt. Solid build. Aesthetic follows the Suburitō wooden design (a variation of the Bokken training sword). Weight is heavier than most Bokken I have held over the years. The edges and ends will scratch with use overtime, and like any mold injections, there is always a possibility of air bubbles that may cause these sort of items to break during high impact against more solid and affixed objects, so maybe don't go full berserk wielding the PP Suburitō.Longevity is expected to be good, but like any plastics, it is probably not advised to allow too much sunlight exposure over the accessory for prolonged periods of time (to prevent accelerated plastic degradation). Excellent price at $32.99 at the moment of purchase.

I wanted to have something that would challenge my arms weight-wise, and give me a tool to understand reach and swing force better. This is perfect. Its solid yet comfortable to swing and can bend but not break when enough force is delivered. Plus its got the right kind of weight and size to present a serious upper hand in the event of attack.

Excellent for training and strength training. Its grip is smooth and almost slippery demanding more grip strength to wield. It not the most durable polypropylene and against tough or sharp targets like blades and wood it could chip little pieces off. But it is so thick I doubt it will ever snap. Its too heavy to safely spar with so I recommend just form strength and Kata training.

Good weight and balance. Texture is conducive to grip but also to adjusting grips mid-technique, as well as feeling minor hold shifts, something very difficult to do with mostly smooth instruments. Blunt edges ideal for experimentation. Takes surface damage purely cosmetically. Seems very solid and unlikely to break or chip from anything but the worst abuse. Has nice subtle decorative markings on the blade portion - it says something in Chinese, but I'll have to update this after I meet someone who can translate it for me. In meanwhile, it just looks nice. This is a fantastic quality product for training with a sword, and at time of this review, for a great price given the quality of it. Possibly useful in non-training situations; it's longer and heavier than a typical baseball bat. No gripes. Highly recommend this item.

sorry the curve in the blade is stupid.. but i guess cold steel had to make the stupid katana curve.. would of been better if they made it straight and added 3 inches .. that would of given this thing a better review and also a better work out. Also there pratice staff..i waited years to get is also heavy on one side ..like really..who thinks this stuff up to ruin martial artists..training

Pros:Straight.More rigid than one would expect.Heavyweight feel.Solidity in hand.Good grip for my medium male hands.Cool kanji on side of "blade".Cons:Hard to practise kata indoors but that's a modern day building issue, not an issue of the suburito itself.Overall, this item fit my expectations perfectly. Practising kata with a heavier bokken such as this one really helped me realign some bones from the extra counterweight. Great for maintaining general bone alignment with correct form 🤙🤙🤙

I used this to rehabilitate my elbow and shoulder after I was slinged up for a month and a half. I wouldn't use it for sparring or anything because you'd injure your partner. Good for swinging around when you're feeling restless. Currently mine is next to my bed in case someone comes snooping around my house and only needs broken ribs and not a bunch of buckshot in their lungs. This isn't a training implement, this is a weapon. If you whacked someone in the knuckles with this you'd shatter them. Once again, do not spar with this unless you hate your buddies.

I completely made the mistake thinking that I’d be receiving two and should’ve done more research / in depth look for it. I also thought that because there were two and it didn’t explicitly say “Training sword” at the time I bought it that they would be Kali sticks. However despite my mistake, the training sword is still extremely durable and good for practice... I’m also 5’0 so it takes a bit more effort than the other trainers I have which is both good and bad since it’s a little big for my height.Speaking on the training sword itself, it has a good balance and not top heavy at all. The handle is a good grip size for most hands, a little longer than usual but it’s alright. It’s finished in black but you can see that it’s got false a wood design. Has a good weight to it, the “Blade” part smoothly narrows to meets the handle where the hilt should be. Overall it’s pretty good. I would have given a 5 star as it does have traditional Japanese writings on one side of it which goes down almost the entire blade.
