Takes a bit to get a good edge on it but once you do its faster than a weed whacker and can take anything up to small saplings. It won't replace an electric one, because its really hard to get weeds right up against something hard, but a little elbow work will save you some stringSwish and flick it and there goes the underbrush.

Its ok for some brush and lightweight foliage, I'd describe it as an alternative version of a common grasswhip, I'm 5'3" and Im too tall to get a good swing out of it but I will say the shaft and handle are stronger and more stable than on your average grass whip

Machetes are meant to be carried around. This one is so lightweight I can swing it all day. Remember to wear a good pair of gloves. The design is highly functional. Enough length of blade but not too long to be dangerous. The bend is multi-functional. First, you don't need to crouch too much to get a parallel swing near the ground - good for cutting grass like a scythe. Second, it make picking up branches easier, again less crouching and bending over. Third, one can clearing small branches off a thicker branch more efficient, as the bend "guides" the movement along the branch.Sharpening is slightly more involved than a straight edge. I use a triangular sander on a oscillating tool, which works well over the bend.My property has a 3-acre overgrown woodland. This tool is always with me when I work on the trails. It can be used to cut everything from grasses to tree branches up to 3in thick. Also particularly effective in reducing the volume of tree branches and woody brushes.

I used this to clear out parts of my yard that were getting too long for the lawnmower. My mower broke just as the lawn was starting to get wild and unfortunately by the time I got it fixed the lawn was too tall for my mower to comfortably mow. This is where the grass whip came in. I have a fairly small yard but this bad boy took care of it no problem and relatively quickly as well. I've also cleared out campsites of tall grass, fairly large areas that didn't take that long. Took some effort swinging it back and forth in such a large area but that's not the fault of the tool. Two things I have to say about it that it is rather short, I didn't have a huge problem using it but I think it being a few inches longer would be nice, or to have the option to get a longer version.Second is that it flexes quite a bit while in use, this isn't a huge problem unless you really want to be more precise with your cuts, I think its actually kinda cool and almost assist in cutting, just be careful!

this thing is good for short people. if you are tall this machete can be very tiring havin to stoop down to get an apropriate swing. the blade is a bit flimsy if the goal is to jus poke around in tall grass to scare away critters i has a purpose. but you could not take down anything thicker than a 1/2". this is a great tool for line locators, because it is light, and it does not leave you hangin when in tall grass were there may be a snake or two..

Arrived on time and in perfect condition. It was pretty sharp on arrival so all I did was put through some ceramic rods a few times and coat in some oil since it is high carbon steel. I am 5' 7" and I only had to lean over slightly to use it, but I would imagine anyone much taller than that would find it uncomfortable to use as they would have to bend over much more to use it. As for how it performed, it was excellent! Used it to trim around my fence and oak tree where small saplings had sprung up around the base of the trunk. Its also great for blooming dandelions, and small patches of high grass (make sure that its dry, doesn't work well on wet grass) When done just wipe it off good and apply a thin coat of oil. This replaced my bulky gas and electric trimmers and is faster

I just got this in today, and immediately went to work on the briar patch with it. It was sharp enough to take down tall grass, thick briars, and small trees. I didn't even wear gloves, and used it for over an hour without realizing it. It is light, and easy to use. Came quite sharp in the box, and powered through vines, and briars both with one swing. I like the fact that I can change my grip, and get a different angle to cut from, as the briars do not all grow in one direction. I am 6'4", and had no problem using it. I would definitely recommend it.

The sharpened edge is about a 1 inch difference from one side compared to the other. With a little work I got it really sharp. It works well but would be nice if it was little bit longer--really have to bend down to cut weeds or grass. Worth the 15 dollars but not what I would call a great quality product but so far it's doing what it's supposed to do. I'll see how it holds up to Summer use
