DO NOT BUY IT! Not worth your money. Can't receive SMS message and internet speed was very slow, not as described! I bought this sim card mainly for receving SMS messages for registration APPs during traveling. However, this card never received a message during my usage. I had to buy another SIMcard to receive verification codes for different APPs. Since there was no access to gmail, I can not contact customer service during that time which the customer serveice said i should.

A few days before my trip, I submitted the pictures required for real name registration, and get an email confirmation of receipt.During the flight, I installed the Sim card. After touchdown, I turned off airplane mode, and got the service immediately without rebooting.A local number turned out to be very useful. I was able to use DIDI and talked to the driver for pickup location.30 min talk is more than enough for occasional phone calls. Wechat is the main communication channel in China.10GB data is also more than enough for me. Not having many US web access is a major drawback compared to some data only cards. But you can use VPN to get around it.

I purchased a 60 day / 20 GB SIM card for my recent trip to China. I pre-registered the card in the US before I left (you have to provide scans of your passport, your visa and a picture of yourself...it's intrusive, but if you've spent time in China, then you know this is how it is); everything went smoothly and the card immediately connected to China Unicom network once I put the card in the phone on arrival. Data rates were very fast, and the phone service was operational. Connecting to the network was no issue; my biggest problem was with the Great Firewall of China and getting through using my VPN (Astrill).I was disappointed with one thing...I wanted a local phone number in order to get train tickets, etc., but this number would not work for that purpose. Also, many apps and services linked to my WeChat account actually require an SMS sent to my US phone number (which is what WeChat is registered to). So next time, I may just get a data card, and use Skype through a VPN to make phone calls and send SMS messages.

Before I made the purchase I read through all the reviews so I was prepared to have some problems. Now that I came back from China and actually used the card for my whole stay there, I feel qualified to do so some real review.1. The activation process is simple but tedious. It was difficult to hold three pieces of documents while taking a selfie. I made it by using clips to hold some docs to my cloth. Granted you need to input all the numbers correctly to finish the process, but they are all readily provided on the package and in your Amazon order history. So for people complaining about the process, be a little diligent. Once you provided all the info, it will be activated and you got a confirmation email. Again, just follow the instruction and do it before your trip.2. Before I started my travel I added a new APN (using example in the little guide in the package) to my phone just in case (I do not think it is necessary though). I swapped my cell sim card on the flight to China - you could choose to do it before you onboard, since the small sim card is very easy to get lost in the dim light. Once my plane landed in Shanghai, after I powered on my phone, the card immediately started working, allowing me to call my friends and receive data service.3. As many people reported, the assigned number is repeatedly reused and your service may get cut-off or you may receive strange messages saying you need to refill charges etc. This happened to me - at the end of last month I found my phone stopped working, no data or voice service. I immediately contacted the customer service through email address provided on the package. I actually prepared an email template including all the necessary info (amazon order#, sim card MAC, assigned phone number etc.) in preparing to deal with exactly the situation. I asked them to restore my service. Within 15 minutes I got a reply from mewfi.com's customer service, saying that my number needed a monthly payment to restore service but they got things straight out with the service provider, so my service was restored. I did not care about how on earth I need to recharge my card since I bought a 30-day plan, but since the service was restored free of charge, I am good with it. And since then my sim card worked without any further problem right to the point my plane back to US was high in sky.4. So I am pretty much satisfied with the purchase and service. and it perfectly fitted with my usage pattern. I did not use all the voice service but have peace in mind knowing that if I need to call somebody the phone is there. Obviously I did not use up all the 3G data since with my stay most time I have free wifi. But whenever I was out of free wifi the data service is always there with good speed. I used WeChat Pay all the time without any problem. This card is a must-have for my purpose.5. Remember: the customer service can only be reached by email (WhatApps is not working in China, and they do not have WeChat account). So be prepared to have a working email box to use. Yahoo email is also blocked in China. You can used Microsoft Outlook or hotmail or any email service based in China. Maybe others I do not know. This is very important in case you need to resolve problems.

I would highly recommend this SIM card for anyone who need to travel to China without a local cell phone or plan to purchase one. I bought this card before my trip and it helped me a lot in many ways such as:• Activation instruction is easy to follow and card can be activated quickly. You can also set up a future start date to use the service and have a peach of mind before travel.• Have a Chinese SIM card already activated as soon as you land in China.• Can add value to extend the days of services and purchase additional data.• Can be used to apply for the Chinese Covid-19 health code which requires real name verification (huge help!) and It’s also a local phone number.Lastly, customer service is excellent and extremely helpful. Very accessible and always answer questions promptly. I encountered several problems when setting up the Covid health code. They were very patient and helpful to answer all my questions until the issues were resolved.
