I have a Marshall Origin 2x12 cab that came with Celestion 70/80s. The 70/80s were a bit harsh and brittle for my liking, and I saw some videos of these v-type speakers and decided to give them a try. First, I a/b'd a single 70/80 against this speaker, and the v-type sounded fuller and just all around better. Like, really good tone for both cleans and gain. I ended up keeping one 70/80 and one v-type in the cab, and think they complement each other well. I'm blown away by the quality of sound these speakers provide, especially for the price, and certainly worth trying to improve your tone before shelling out crazy $$ for creambacks, alnico blue or gold, etc. Highly recommend. 👍

I put this in a Marshall dsl40c. It came with a Creamback in it, but it sounded just a tad bit heavy in the lower frequencies. I have a fender 68drri that came with the v-type, so I plugged the Marshall into it just to see what it would sound like. It was perfect! These speakers are less expensive, probably because of the lighter weight magnet, but they might just be my favorite speaker ever. I made an extension cab for the Creamback and they sound like they were made for each other.

I listened to many speakers. Some cost three times as much as the v-type, there is no reason for me to spend anymore than the 93$ I paid for this speaker. I put it in a 2 x 12 seismic Luke C sealed (i bought here on amazon) cabinet with a seventy 80 that I bought used for 35$ and they work great together. I have a Fender Super Champ SC112 80-watt 1x12" cabinet that came with a celestion seventy 80. It was way too bright for me. I play Epiphone Les paul and SG for the warm sound. But this speaker was way too bright as it was. But once I paired it with the V-type in the seismic cabinet, I was really impressed. Perfect sound for my ears. V-type plus a seventy 80 in a seismic 2 x 12 for for just over $300 I got the perfect cabinet for me.

I used this in my Marshall DSL40C amp because I really didn’t like the Seventy 80 stock speaker. This handles the gain much better in my opinion. It’s still new so it’s not broken in yet but I plan on that happening sooner rather then later.

I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb Limited edition "Chocolate Brownie" amp that came with a special Alnico "vintage" 12" speaker (smaller magnet) instead of the Jensen speaker they put in the black face models. I had done a side by side of the two amps/speakers prior to purchasing a four years ago. The Chocolate Brownie with the Alnico was a better option from the factory at that time. Just recently I was having my guitars worked on at the Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta, as they have a top flight repair and maintenance team. I happened to test each guitar from a silver face Deluxe Reverb just by chance as it was close to mine. The sound out of the the silver face was materially different than mine. I looked in the back to find this Celestion 12 inch V Type 70 from the factory. I did some research and decided to buy one and replace the factory speaker. WOW!!! worth the money in every measurement. Lows, mids, highs are terrific and more rounded at any volume than the special edition factory speaker. With any volume at all the amp comes to life. The speaker sounds authentic to Fender purists and is punchier than the factory speaker. I have an original '65 Super Reverb still with factory speakers and I just thought the Deluxe 12" was muddier due to the size. Not so once the Celestion was installed. The pros and cons are the V type can handle more power. I have JJ 6L6s installed and it takes all they can give it with a predictable break up. The down side is it takes a bit more power to get the amp and speaker to get to that vintage distortion and crunch, but by just a bit. The amp's tube reverb and vibrato functions sounds more alive, along with all pedals. I could NOT be happier.

I ordered one of these to replace the stock HH speaker in my Laney Cub12R which was thin and sterile sounding. The V-Type really brought it to life. It seems they incorporated the best features from each of their top sellers and came up with a great all-purpose driver. It's responsive across the entire frequency range and doesn't focus on any one in particular. Tight bottom, smooth mids and a chimey top end. Breakup starts at about 4 on the volume. Push it harder and it's got bark and grind but stays smooth and never gets frazzy. At least that's how it performs in my Laney. YMMV.

Great speaker! To my ears it sounds like a Classic 30 but not quite as harsh in the upper midst. Good breakup at higher volumes, but never "ratty" sounding. Nice and smooth with a definite mid bump. It sounds decent clean, but that is not really where it shines. I have it paired with a late 80's Marshall Jubilee and it's like they were made for each other. Construction looks solid. Overall, I'm very pleased and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a classic 70's-80's sounding rock speaker.

I added this to a Marshall DSL40C. The difference between this and the stock speaker is amazing. Harsh ice pick highs and tubby flubby bass are now gone. I debated which speaker to upgrade with for awhile and I am very happy with the V-Type as my final choice. For the price point Marshall should just start putting this speaker in as stock on all new amps because it is that good.
