Celestion guitar speakers have been an important part of British guitar tone since the birth of Rock & Roll. Traditionally, they're known for lively and vocal midrange character with plenty of sparkle and chime, which turns into an exciting growl when overdriven, often compressing when pushed hard. Inspired by our favorite modern American tones, the A-Type is a different kind of guitar speaker from Celestion. Of course, it still has the musical and revealing three-dimensional quality that is the heart and soul of a Celestion guitar speaker, however it features a more laid-back midrange which reveals body and complexity in the upper register, accompanied by full and rounded low frequencies. The A-Type conveys a fluid, even performance with an increased headroom threshold that allows your amp's tone to shine through. Clean players will love the smooth articulation; for rockers the brooding, powerful low end threatens thunder that's only a heavy riff away! SPECIFICATIONS: Power rating: 50W; Nominal impedance: 8ohm; Sensitivity: 98 dB; Frequency range: 75-5000 Hz; Unit weight: 7.7 lb; Shipping weight: 9.3 lb

It takes several hours to break-in but that's a great feature. It retains sparkle as they warm up over time. The online reviews sound good but can't possibly reveal how good these sound and feel. Pete Thorn's review convinced me to try one, seemed to have the versatility and articulation I require, but it substantially surprised me just how good it is.

I just put this in my Boss katana 50 mkii in hope's of getting more low end and a more rounded top end, and this speaker did exactly that and did it nicely at that. Fit like a glove in the katana, and though the impedance is 4 ohms on katana and the celestion is 8 ohms there is no shortage of output volume at all.this is likely due to the efficiency of the celestion. Tonally speaking this speaker is a neat flavor of British celestion meets say American eminence of sorts. A nice low end similar to an eminence,a throaty vocal like mids, typical celestion voice, and a clear yet rounded top end similar to an eminence again. This speaker would and is a great choice for a brighter amp that might need it's top end more rounded and a touch compressed. Its well made, sounds great for rock, blues and can put its feet into some forms of metal territory. If you are a fusion guitarist, a shredder type and require smooth liquid like lead tones this speaker will suit you well. I can't say how it would do for extreme metal but I think it would likely make it to around the middle ground in that territory. Might be a tad dark for say country types of music but anything fusion, blue's rock shred, and some metal.. you'll like this one.

Didn't like the overall tone of the Chinese Greenbacks that came in this cabinet, so last week I switched 'em out with a pair of Celestion A's I picked up really cheap.I was happy from the first strum. Clear, articulate, bright without being brittle, and a wonderful low end that many speakers don't have. Nice clean headroom available before speaker breakup with 2 of them (8 ohms each, running on dedicated speaker out). I had to add a speaker out to my cab so I could keep both at 8.I've paid 3 times as much for a speaker and sold it within days. These are keepers.

This speaker is upgrading the Celestion Seventy 80 from a Traynor YCV40. Just in case anyone is wondering, the YCV40 is essentially a rough clone of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for 2/3s the price. I play live up to 4x a week depending on the season and 150+ a year.Had no issues playing live and at stage volume and I was able to get a very pleasing tone using amp settings and pedals. At louder volumes where the amp wasn't mic'd, the tone would start to become brittle and the low end would lose tightness.I'm used to Celestion speakers in most of my amps. Mainly Greenbacks, Black Shadow (Mesa Boogies) and the Seventy 80 in the Traynor. I was looking for a speaker that was a little darker as I can always add treble and presence. Also wanted tighter low end for the crunch tones similar to Van Halen, AcDc, Metallica etc.The first thing I noticed was both of the properties I needed were met. No more brittle high end and I could chug some palm muting without sounding flubby. This was without changing the settings on the amp and pedals were exactly the same. This speaker made a much more pronounced improvement to my live sound and I could hear it cut through the mix even better than it already did. The mids were perfect for getting the guitar sound out the PA but that could easily be setting the pedals properly and understanding the difference between how you hear the amp and how the PA reproduces the all the instruments. One important install issue although this may not apply to other amps or cabinets. The Seventy80 lays flush against the speaker cutout when front mounted. The Celestion A was a little bit off. Maybe a few millimeters. I ended up using speaker gaskets to raise the speaker up a few millimeters so that it would lay against the baffle correctly. This is most likely a design on the Traynor but I've seen people replace the speaker with a V30 with no problems.Possible fixes are to uses gaskets to raise the speaker, or to widen the speaker cutout by a few mm.
