Highly recommend. Sharp out of the box. Very sturdy.I have the folding buck knife too which I like but I prefer this fixed blade one. Much easier to clean.

Not much to say it's a great knife. Buck doesn't disappoint. I was very impressed with the sharpness and the leather sheath.

I like this knife because of its high-quality materials. The S35VN steel has superior edge retention and durability versus the 420HC steel, and the micarta handle is durable. If you want a knife you can trust, buy this one.NOTE: The knife is exactly as big as they said it was. It is smaller than a lot of your big unwieldy hunting knives so be sure you want a slim streamlined look and feel before you buy this knife. The knife was in good condition and razor sharp when I got it. It shipped very promptly.Again, A KNIFE THAT CAN TAKE A LOT OF USE.I have field dressed two deer with this knife already. I've never used a sharper knife while doing that job before. It cuts beautifully.

A great small work knife. I don't go for the current fad of demanding one knife be axe, chopper, and finesse blade all at once. Nor do I do the currently popular stupidity of batoning my knives. I like to operate on the idea of using the right tool for the right job--and not risk having no blade or a damaged blade by abusing it in the bush. So I go for a set up of a hatchet/hand axe, a large knife, small knife and very small neck knife in my kit. This gives me back ups to loss (I've watched way too many people on survival shows or outdoor activities lose their knives--or fire starters for that matter--which reminds me, I strongly recommend you attach a brightly colored lanyard or a touch of bright spray paint or a bright decal to essential stuff like that--losing an essential item because you're going for the all black tacticool look is crazy talk), back up to damage/breakage, theft, or options for activities/work. Now this knife is great for most if not all of your regular outdoor chores/work. The blade is long enough to be very useful but small enough to be very comfortable at the same time. It is solid, quality, and a good looking knife. The small size also makes it lightweight--so using it for a long time isn't uncomfortable in itself, nor is carrying it. If you take care of your knives and don't abuse them, this knife would easily outlast you. The small size and narrow grip also make it great for regular or small hands--this gives you great both dexterity when using it and opens up usability. If you want a large knife or a chopper knife, get a large knife or a chopper knife. If you want to know if it works with your ferro rod, you have to know if your rod only produces sparks with a certain steel or if it is one of those that just needs a sharp edge (and so can work with any sharp steel, glass, rock, etc.). When I'm out hiking, I can leave my chopper at home and just take a hatchet or hawk and this because I can still do everything I want between the two and keep all my options open, but the weight is less. This size is really useful--I can do everything from skinning to food prep to shelter building to fire work, and so on. Very happy. If you have hands the size of hams or you like to go crazy on a knife and baton and hammer and chop down small trees, get something else. This is way too nice of a blade to wreck.

where to start, oh where to start with this knife? It's amazing! It's touted as one of Buck's most popular fixed blades, and I can DEFINITELY see why! It's a small thing compared to the 119, but of the same basic design. A classic doesn't become a classic unless it just flat out works, and this blade does just that. Anything from whittling and camp chores to food and game prep, this one will handle it all! Now, Some may rag on the steel, some may complain that you can't break a cinder block with it, or bend it in half, or never have to sharpen it... But this is a knife, not an adamantium prybar. Keep that in mind, and this knife will last for generations.EDIT: After having sold my previous 102 a while back and trying a few other fixed blade knives, I'm pleased to say I've returned to the 102 and couldn't be happier! The edge this knife takes is WICKED sharp, and the size is PERFECT for my style of hunting and bushcraft work.its edge taking ability coupled with its size makes it a rather nimble and precise knife in my humble opinion. That said, this knife isn't a slouch by any means under NORMAL usage if you use that great tool that is your BRAIN.You batoners, tacti-cool, bush-glampers, and mall-ninja types wouldn't be pleased with this knife since it's not the latest full-tang, super-steel, über-indestructible, cryo-treated, sharpened prybar... but then, it's not marketed towards y'all, now is it?However, if you're looking for a solid knife that can do just about anything if approached properly... you wouldn't be remiss in choosing this little gem.
