August 2024I have an older bike (2009ish) with the stock brakes - Avid Juicy 3.Either the original piston or the piston seals in the brake levers had started swelling when riding in warm/hot weather. This would cause the brakes to seize up on their own, almost immobilizing the bike. I looked several places, but could not find any OEM replacement parts anymore for these brakes. Some websites still had a listing but trying to order the part always ended up showing as out-of-stock. I guess 15 years is getting up there in age for a mountain bike :(So this part seems to work as a substitute, at least for my brakes. Based on other comments here, I'm not sure how long these replacement pistons in the brake levers will last, but for now I can use my bike in the summer again. With an older bike like this I think my only other option is to buy newer brake levers that are compatible with my existing brake calipers. So buying two of these plus a bleed kit for avid brakes seems like a reasonable investment even if the replacement piston seals only last for 1-2 years.

Don't install these without install new seals from an oem sram rebuild kit. The metal part is great quality, but the seals are garbage.

Good craftsmanship. Lever does not feel like a factory lever. Very soft/spongy lever feel.

The factory part is plastic, swells, and then eventually sticks. This part looks like CNC’d aluminum. Not too complicated to install and works perfectly. Just make sure you pick the “RSC” version or not because they’re different sizes and aren’t interchangeable.

I purchased 4 of these to rebuild my 2008 Avid Juicy Ultimate. While the size of the piston is correct the seals are undersized. You can never seal the leaver all the way. During the leaver bleed if you pull hard on the syringeAir leaks in behind the seals and you can never bleed it properly.

2/27/2023 update. I started having issues with just one brake lever. leaking brake fluid at the contact adjustment just like another reviewer mentioned. I see another reviewer mentioned the rubber seals are smaller than the OEM. fortunately I kept the old pistons and will try out switching to the OEM seals and see if this works.UPDATE: several rides in Vegas summer heat and no stuck brakes. These have been a worthy upgrade.Watched several YouTube DIY and the official SRAM how to rebuild your brake levers. Wasn’t sure if I should do the gen2 rebuild kits that still uses plastic plungers vs these aluminum ones but considering some people mentioned the gen2 rebuild kits from SRAM eventually got stuck again, I decided to try these. It seemed a little daunting but it was easier than I thought when I actually did the rebuild. Immediately the levers felt better and no sticking. Should be trying the levers out in 3 digit heat soon and will update review if any issues. You don’t need the SRAM tool to rebuild the levers. It might make rebuild easier but not necessary if you have any kind of DIY abilities.

December 22, 2020 Update: So after 6 months using the brakes with the FEIBANG Piston, the lever started leaking. The piston's rubber seals started going bad. It leaked at the Contact Adjustment Knob. Such a bummer because I thought the metal part would last longer. I ended up buying an authentic piston kit from SRAM. Wish it lasted longer.Sept 20, 2020: I bought this to replace a 2017 SRAM Guide RSC internal piston. Ive used it for 3 months now, about 150 miles, and it works great.
