I used this on an aluminum bicycle part that had corroded from road salt. I first cleaned and sanded the surface, then applied it. It did provide a protective coating which I then painted over, but it did not turn the aluminum finish black.

Most people don't know it but Aluminum Black also works on steel. I use Birchwood to age medieval armor and other metal parts. In the photo, I purchased the burgonet helmet new. Then used Aluminum Black to darken the steel. Then, I spritz 45% vinegar onto the steel helmet and let it dry. After about 4 hours sitting, use a spray bottle to spritz tap water onto the helmet which instantly starts the rusting process. Let dry. Wipe off excess rust and recoat with Aluminum Black. Then, spray on Remington gun oil and wipe off helmet to stop rusting. As you see in the photo, the finish closely resembles an actual antique Ca1600 burgonet.

Good product to cover up minor blemishes and scratches in anodized material. The marks won't disappear, but you will have to look much harder to find them. Easy to use and very efficient.

I used this to touch-up small surface scratches on my anodized AR15 lower. When it’s dry I can’t even tell there was ever any scratches there. The matte/satin finish and black/grey color is an exact match. I use a very small pointed foam swab-its to apply the solution and it works perfectly. The solution works and dries fast. I just keep applying very lightly until the scratch disappears, then I let it sit for 24 hours before handling, as the manufacturer suggests. Be aware this product is not paint. It works by means of a chemical reaction with the aluminum and leaves no visible surface clumping as paint would. I highly recommend this product for similar use cases.

I bought this to touch up scratches on my new AR lower and this worked perfect. I also used it on my rolling pins that lost the finish when i was swapping my trigger. I had a couple friends look at my gun and they never knew there were scratches. The directions on the bottle made it easy to apply and it's definitely worth the money.

This works well on aluminum. I usually apply two coats and I’ve found it best not to use it sparingly, but liberally. It has a strong odor, so I use it with a fan turned on. The coloring “sticks” well, as I would expect since it’s not paint, but a chemical reaction. It’s a cost effective alternative to paints or other coatings.

Used it once again on an item that I can't mention on here, and it works very well. Got a scratch? Use this! Got a complete raw aluminum something that you want to have a nice black finish? Use this! Stuff is awesome.Free tip: purchase some Preval sprayers and pour this into the bottle. Put your mask and gloves on and go to work. In very little time, you'll have a product that looks great. The Preval uses a minimal amount of liquid, and it allows you to have equal coverage over large areas. It may show wear quickly, but that is just another part of the cool factor. Just make sure you do at least three coats, washing in between. Oh, and another tip, you can take your gloved finger and brush it along the big areas to redistribute the liquid for better coverage. Works for me. Follow me for more useful tips. Lol.

This product works very well on some types of aluminum, and makes scratches to the black finish almost completely unnoticeable, but be sure to follow the directions. It seems to work well on soft, pure aluminum surfaces. When I tried it on hard aluminum alloys like the old Sig Sauer pistol frames it did very little to almost nothing, so your results may vary.Update: I have since used it on several other aluminum alloy pistol frames with mostly good results. It works on Beretta frames, which seem to take the black color quite well!

Fast, but some previous work are needed. Not black and sturdy like anodizing, but to touch up some spots it's way good enough

A better alternative to using spray paint or markers to hide those ugly white letters on Umarex air pistolsJust make sure to scrub the area with an old toothbrush with rubbing alcohol or solvent de greaser.Apply with a Q tip and watch it darken to an almost black, like 90%If the pistol is made of an aluminum alloy, then I tend to use this in combination with Suber BLUE from Birtchwood ,

A great product to fix those inevitable scratches on your favourite firearms. Quick and easy fix.

Worked well. I started using it with a paint brush, then used a Q Tip. I found I needed to saturate the surface, not lightly dab it on. It didn't "magically" repair scraped parts, but it did blacken the devets. I was hoping for magic, but don't we always. It may [definitely] require more than one application. 3oz will go a long way, I believe. Definitely would recommend.

I purchased a new base for my new Tikka T3 and it turned out to be too long. The base is anodized black aluminium but was too long, I cut the base and used this product to turn the fresh cut and shiny aluminium black. The product worked perfectly for me.
