I have used this for years to water prof shoes. Boots, kids shoes a must, tents and lots of other things. Always remember to spray it outside.

Read the instruction. Sprayed it on the sneakers in the backyard, (yes, it does stink). Then let them dry in the sun. The terrible smell was gone once they dried! I wore them in the rain, and my feet stayed dry!

I previously tried Nikwax wash and waterproofing that you apply in the wash, which did absolutely nothing. I sprayed the Atsco silicone fairly thickly onto a nylon jacket and a cloth raincoat, let it dry two days, and then wore the nylon jacket on long walks in light rain two days in a row. As shown in the photo (black), the rain beaded up, which was definitely not the case before application. I briefly sprayed the kitchen faucet onto the hood of the cloth jacket and also beaded up (blue). It’s probably unreasonable to expect it to work well in heavy rain or prolonged exposure, but it should buy you a little time before soak-through. Note that it is quite smelly while applying and for a day or so afterward, so apply outdoors or in your garage, ideally with the door open. Also, cover the floor with a tarp or newspaper to catch the falling mist, which may be slick on the floor. Also let it dry there so you don’t smell up your house. Once fully dried, the odor goes away. Not sure how long it will last, but for now I’m pleasantly surprised.

USE ON A CONVERTIBLE TOP AS WELL AS ON SHOES TO WATER PROOF. USE OUTSIDE AND LET SHOES FUME OFF NO ODOR AFTER THEY DRY.

I've gone through several cans of this stuff, waterproofing everything from boots and shoes, to felt hats and various jackets. It's very easy - just one application does it. The hardest part about it is having to wait for it to cure after spraying! I know - I'm impatient. But seriously, you do have to just let it sit for a whole day, preferably two, before using the item you've treated - otherwise it won't work as intended. If you do it the right way and let it cure before using, then it's like the material itself becomes waterproof. This is way better than the products that just coat something for a month or two and have to be reapplied all the time. I've got some boots that I treated a couple of years ago and they're just as waterproof now as they were when I first treated them. This is a great product that works as advertised - just be patient and let it cure before touching it.
