This is a completely useless tool.Inner body is too wide to allow the hooks to attach to the springs. When screwed in enough allowing the hooks to grasp the spring, it doesn't have enough room to compress the spring enough. The hooks are not big enough to actually hook into the springs causing slip-offs often.Star shaped crank it too thin causing pain in the hands and fingers.

Used this tool that was inexpensive but worked once I got the hang of it. For the at home DIY mechanic this is all that you need to remove the valve springs on your project.

Bought this spring compressor to replace a broken valve spring on GM a 6 litre LS. At such a cheap price and not a known design, I did not expect it to work very well. I could not have been more wrong. This tool worked amazingly. I was able to remove and replace the valve spring in 5 minutes. Not sure how well it will work on other engines, but for GM LS engines, this tool is worth its weight in gold. I would highly recommend it for those applications.

The tool worked but did bend easily and had to have the spring cradle and the arms bent back into shape several times.

The description says universal for all vehicles; absolutely not the case for Honda's B20 series cylinder heads. However, we did make it work by grinding off most of the tool so it would actually hold onto the valve spring and the twist-top also falls off very easily. Highly suggest to use proper C clamps instead.

The tiny c clip underneath kept popping off which made the silver guide fall off as well. Not too pick up deal, EXCEPT it’s a tiny piece of metal falling into a fresh engine. Luckily I found it each time. I put it back together and finally started to use a piece of tape to hold it in place when it popped off again.

The stagger on the spring arms didn’t quite line up right in my springs. This means it’s somewhat cockeyed while compressing. YMMV. It worked for the one spring I needed it on that was close to the firewall. It got me out of a jam my other compressor couldn’t handle.

I needed to replace the valve stem seals on the first 2 cylinders of my bobcat engine based on oil deposits on those 2 spark plugs. Needed a spring compressor that would fit in tight quarters. This one worked perfectly for that, but wouldn't have fit in the cramped space for the other 2 cylinders. Did what needed to be done and worked well doing it.

A quality tool for little money.I will work..... HOWEVER the adjustment length should be about 3/8 longer. I had a difficult time compressing stock SBC valve springs because at times I was unable to compress them enough. Had to make several atempts on many of the springs. There needs to be about 3/8 inch additional length to work well.

Using it on a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 to replace valve seals, it has done very well and seems sturdy with no issues. Good tool for the price.

When the Universal Valve Spring Compressor I bought recently, to remover the valve springs from my Mitsubishi 2.6 L OHV engine, did not even come close to being UNIVERSAL, I bought this unit. This works reasonably well, but because the way Mitsubishi builds their heads on this engine, it is a little difficult to get the two arms that are designed to fit into the lower spring loops can not be put in that low on the spring because Mitsubishi recesses the lower part of the valve spring into the cylinder head. However with a little patience, the job can be done. Just a note for those who may be wondering, I was doing this without removing the cylinder head, and using air pressure to hold the valve shut while removing the valve springs, so I could change the Valve Stem Seals. I was changing the Timing chains, so since the engine is 36 years old, but only has 111,500 miles on it, and runs great, I saw no reason to tear the head off.
