After purchasing this item, I read the reviews and was concerned about the stability of the post. A neighbor of mine had purchased the same post and ststed the same. The included bolts were not enough to stabilize the post. He added 3 additional self tapping screws. In additional to the screws, I inserted cement into the center of the 1st post and then added 1 piece of re-bar. The following day, I attached the upper post with the additional screws and then added more concrete through the post to about 6 inches above where the 2 post are attached. That post will not move. If you are going to use cement to adhere the post to the ground, I would suggest that you pour the cement first and then lower the post into the cement and check that it is plumb. It's harder to stabilize the post if you try to lay the post 1st and then the cement. I also suggest that you just cement the lower post versus the two joined together.

I bought this mail box post because it was the only one that fit Architectural Mailboxes' extra large mail box. Bit mistake! The main issue is the the post itself has been designed as two pieces (so it would all fit in the box, I guess). The design of the joint is simply terrible engineering. The two post pieces are joined by 3 screws that simply do not work. The holes for the screws are extra large so that the poor manufacturing tolerances will allow the screws to align. But the problem is that the screws won't hold properly, and the post wobbles and flops back and forth a few inches. Really? A wobbly mailbox post? Unfortunately, I had mounted the post in concrete before I figured this out. I'm hoping to be able to add some more screws or flanges to stabilize the post. The rest of the design is not great either. There is a cheap plastic skirt for the bottom that is used to cover up the ugly post joint. I don't expect that to weather very well. The arm/platform that fits over the post has 4 pieces of rubber that hold the arm in place on the post. When assembling and mounting the arm to the post, the rubber pieces won't stay in their spot, and I literally spent 20 minutes hunting for the ones that kept falling out. Once I got past that problem, the mail box arm did work, and it was fairly easy to get the actual mail box mounted and pointed in the correct direction. The assembly instructions were also below par, especially trying to match the screws to the appropriate pieces. A bit more clarity would have helped. But I would highly recommend that you find a different way to hold up your extra large mail box! (Their extra large mail box is very nice, and seems well built, by the way.) They sell a different mounting plate adapter (needed because of the large size) that will fit over 4x4 posts, and that is likely a better solution. If Architectural Mailboxes can figure out a way to fix this awful design and stop the wobbles, this could be a satisfactory solution. They could make the joint wider than the 1 inch overlap that is there. They could increase manufacturing precision so that the holes weren't so big. They could attach a threaded nut for a bolt in the bottom piece so that the attachment screws didn't strip. But with the current design, even if the post starts out stable, after a few windy days, it will be wobbling anyway. Using a simple screws to try to hold these two post pieces together in the thin post walls is folly.

Overall I am happy I made the purchase. Looks nice and you can make it sturdy. Have received compliments. I am not bothered by the fact that the skirt hiding the connection is plastic. Easy to work with and snaps securely together with 4 machine screws.I saw many reviews regarding the Hamilton post and was a bit worried about it's stability. I agree that the connection of the top and bottom posts with sheet metal screws is a bit tipsy. Through those reviews, I did add concrete to the post which stabilized it a lot. Don't expect to achieve a 41 inch mailbox height with the post as delivered if you want to bury it more than 6 or 8 inches. I preferred 16 inches deep (at least something more than 10) set in concrete and had to add 6 inches to the post to achieve that depth. The arm was also brought up in reviews and while others used longer screws to mate the two pieces, I used a couple of clamps to bring the pieces together, which allowed me to use the provided machine screws to secure it to the post.

Good looking post but poor design. The two piece post is attached with 3 small screws that can’t be tightened properly. Leaving a wobbly post. The bottom design is made of flimsy plastic. It is a quality company and they should know better.
