AMBIPOLY Jazz reeds extend the new revolution in saxophone reed-making, providing players with unprecedented playability and depth of tone to match the expressive capacity of great cane reeds. Jazz cut is similar to current modern-cut reeds, featuring a slightly thinner vamp and heart with a subtly modified tip, to play with less resistance. This gives the reed a crisp and lightning fast response while maintaining a warm, intimate and inviting tonal signature. Jazz cut gives plenty of projection, power and flexibility with secure, clear altissimo. Fully adjustable with standard reed tools. Warrantied for 6 months of continuous, consistent performance. Lifetime expectancy of at least 12 months. Simply a better reed. AMBIPOLY is a next-generation, advanced premium synthetic reed that feels and plays like great cane. AMBIPOLY reeds deliver unprecedented value with these benefits: - Authentic, concert-ready sound with immediate response, clarity and full harmonics over an impressive dynamic range - Secure articulation and stable intonation with strong, even projection and crystal clear altissimo - Consistent, reliable performance regardless of temperature, humidity or altitude - Guaranteed durability that does not gradually degrade with use - Double-injection molded for amazing consistency - Absorbs water for richer depth of tone and stays hydrated for hours - Fully adjustable and clippable with standard reed tools - Extremely long lifespan - Mouth-safe, durable material never warps, splits, splinters, cracks or grows mold - Pairs to the mouthpiece and embouchure for true cane-like performance

I play with Vandoren jazz size 3 1/5. The chart suggested 3. I tried 2.5 and it was way too harder than I expected. I will give it another shot with a size 2, and see if it works.EDIT:Tried the size 2. It's a really much better reed. A little hard on the lower end, but likely is just how the reed is designed. I'm not touching it. I found it sounds better than my Leggeres.Probably it will not be my main reed for gigs. However, it looks an economically viable option for practicing, in case it lasts as much as advertised.

If you compare it to vandoren classic reed, this is really stiff.

The reed does not perform as advertised. Even at 1.5 it is too stiff and requires too much air. I am very unhappy with both the 1.5 and 1.5+.

I use fibracel synthetic reeds on my tenor saxophone, I’ve been playing for many years, weekend pro. 68 years young. So like most players, I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to find that elusive golden setup of reed and mouthpiece. For reference, I often use a metal Link 7*, and I use #2 or #2 1/2 fibracels…I think I’ve tried all the synthetic reeds out there, and other than the fibracels, the synthetics always play way to stiff for me. I use a clip on mic, and I need a reed that will respond to play soft or loud. I can’t do this if it takes too much force to get the reed buzzing, which is another reason I like the lower strength Fibracel reeds. My other objection to most of the synthetics is that they sound like the plastic they are made of. This Ambipoly reed did sound better than every other synthetic brand and model out there (other than my beloved Fibracels), but even though it was only 1.5 strength, it still played too stiff for me!! But I found it almost useable, and I did give it 3 stars….fibracels get 5 stars, every other synthetic reed gets 1 star… And I’m pretty sure I’ve tried them all.

These are my new favorite synthetic reeds. You do have to follow the instructions and wet the reeds for a few minutes before playing, but they play very well.

This is by far the best synthetic saxophone reed ever made. Whoever gave this product a 1 star review either has only basic saxophone skills or works for a competitor. I have been playing saxophone professionally in Chicago for over 20 years and I have played every brand of reed ever made. The Alta Ambipoly by Silverstein has a very warm and natural response, just like a good cane reed. The altissimo response is better than cane and I am able to get more volume and projection than a cane reed. Highly recommended!
