These shoes are almost perfect. The width is great for standard size fit, stack height is nice, and the extra room in the toe box helps. I just wish there was more toe box height. It does feel a little tight, hopefully gets better as they break in.

Had to go up one size but they are comfortable and I feel more balanced when running, first running shoe with no heel to toe drop and wide toe box, most other shoes cuz my toes to cramp up, so far good

Very nice running shoes and you can get them for a good price on here. The insole is firmer than many others I tried, but I actually found that firmness hurts my toes less than max cushioned shoes. The anatomical toe box is amazing and can easily fit my wide feet. This could be a good shoe for people with big toe issues. The outsole is durable and plenty grippy. I did have to size up 1/2 size than I do in other brands. These are very versatile and are nice gym shoes as well as runners.

I've been wearing zero drop, minimalist shoes for ~ 1.5 years, including exercising and some running. I've been searching for a pair/brand with zero drop, wide toe box with just a bit more support and cushioning. These Escalante 4's are absolutely phenomenal in this regard and will be my "go to" athletic shoe from this point forward. Great construction, super comfortable, great fit (bought regular size I wear, 9.5's and they're perfect). Highly recommended!

These shoes feel great, they're light, they support me while I run or walk, and they have that Altra-specific toe box that leave my toes feeling free and able to move. The only downside of these shoes are the laces they ship with; they've untied themselves about half of the times I've worn the shoes. I would buy these again regardless of the lace issue because the comfort I feel during running is worth the small additional hassle of replacing the laces.

My husband is on his 4th pair. He loves them and he has fussy feet. He wears them for everything except snow. He finds them super comfortable. They seem to last a decent amount of time. And he likes the wider toe box.

Fit is still comfortable, decently wide. The upper is a huge improvement in durability: my big toe wore through my previous pair inside a couple of months. The sole seems to wear a bit better with fewer coloured sections which came unstuck on the third generation.Only weakness is the cushioning at the heel/achilles which has worn through after a few months when the rest of the shoe is still fine. Will need to patch it with something!

I have owned four pairs of Escalante 3’s, and absolutely loved them, and as my current two pairs are starting to get to the point that they need replaced, i was excited to see that they have been updated to the Escalante 4. I ordered one pair to try them out, and I am glad that i didn’t go ahead and order two pairs at once and throw out my 3’s.sizing for me was the same between 3’s and 4’s.i was excited for the new colorway of neon yellow 4’s compared to the orange of the 3’s, but as of now i’ve got to call these shoes a miss.in the update from 3 to 4, they reduced the amount of cushioning around the back of the heel AND switched from one seam straight down the middle to TWO vertical seams that run about a half inch from the centerline and sweep out to about a full inch as the upper meets the sole of the shoe. the seams can be clearly felt when you run your finger along the inner heel of the shoe. these seams combined with the reduced cushioning create hotspots on both the outer and inner ball of your heel which can and will lead to blisters. (for me it’s the outer edge on my left foot and the inner edge of my right foot) i started to get these blisters after just 1 mile of light jogging and walking to break them in. i gave them a break for a few days to let my feet recover and tried again. same thing with another mile of light jogging and walking, and i had even made sure to tie the shoes more securely than i had done on the first day. at this point i wondered if i would need to lace in a “heel lock” (which i never had to do on the 3’s, but have had other shoes that required it in the past). i laced in the heel lock, and ran 2miles without any issues, but i felt like i needed to lace the shoes fairly tightly even with the heel lock. i then walked a cooldown mile, and even with the heel lock, i was starting to feel some discomfort in the same hotspot areas.Bottom line, i’ve put 5 miles in them so i’m sure that returning them isn’t an option, so i will keep trying them every so often to see if they eventually break in along those seams, but in the meantime, i will stock up on Escalante 3’s as they reduce in price and before they become unobtainable. i did appreciate the lighter, more breathable knit of the upper. i also think that the full-length tongue of the 4’s seems more securely attached than the 2/3 length tongue of the 3’s (the stitching attaching the tongue eventually broke on one of my pairs of 3’s)

I find that I have GREAT trouble in finding shoes that don't hurt. They are all too narrow but these shoes are a bit like not having shoes on. They are extremely comfortable.

This shoe is amazing, it's for runners or anyone who wants a comfortbale supportive correctly designed shoe. It's correctly designed for feet so lets all your foot bones tendons work properly. I bought 3 pair of them for marathon training. Just don't expect to look fashionable because the shape of the shoe makes it look very hobbit-ish, but that's not a knock on the shoe only on current fashion which I think will catch up with the superior function of shoes designed like this. I can't believe it took 50 years for shoe designers/engineers to make a shoe that actually functions properly. In 1983 Nike's waffle racer for cross country had a wide front foot design but sadly, they stopped making it, probably more because of fashion choices and not function.

I chose the Altra Escalante 4's as they are one of only a few in the Altra range that still uses their 'original' shoe shape - meaning the are their widest fitting toe box.The Black/Black colourway is more of a charcoal/grey...but this looks very smart.Nice cushioning, without the need for a huge midsole!!They are a wide fit, but anyone used to minimal./barefoot shoes are usually after more width...these were still slightly tight fitting for my 11cm wide feet!Might try a half size up and see how I go!Would still recommend going by my initials try of these!
