When moved back and forth, this double sistrum shaker creates a mellow sound with more volume than the African sistrum. Covered by our warranty, this tambourine features: * 11" pairs of woody forks connected with wire and reed * Four sets of 3-5 flattened bottle caps * Handcrafted using natural and recycled materials in Ghana * As a handmade product exact appearance may vary from photos
Your purchase of this native instrument support the efforts of non-profit Africa Heartwood Project. By connecting with traditional world music culture, you’re also contributing to a meaningful cause—helping provide Village Water Projects and Orphan Support to West African communities in need.

My instrument is quite different than pictured. But it is still well made, and I appreciate the craftsmanship and the cause.

I love the sound of this instrument! It is perfect. I love the repurposing and the price was right.

I only gave 4 stars because although I was so excited to see how large and beautiful this hand sistrum instrument was, it was broken inside the package. It seemed well packaged but as I took the plastic off I saw 3 of the bottle caps laying there and realized one of the bottom stick pieces that hold the caps had broken off. I then saw the little stick. Putting those aside I picked it up and shook it and the sound is "perfect" for what I want it for, the wood piece is beautiful and I love how its made, (minus the problem) so the little DIY in me grabbed my Gorilla Glue and put the 3 caps back on the lil wood piece and placed it back into the holes as close as I could get it, (because clearly it broke off not snapped off) and it is air drying as I type this. I hope it works for me, I also just glued over the others just in case. I am just a firm believer in if you really love something, you will mend it and take care of it and I really wanted this piece. Now for those who are not Do-it-yourselfers, or have G. Glue on hand, this could be quite upsetting, I get it. So 4 stars instead of 5.

Really cool construction and sound. Amazing how a few simple parts can make a musical instrument.

I had been looking for hand held tambourines for some time. I was delighted to see this option on Amazon and purchased two of them as gifts. I love the handwork and the idea of using bottle caps is amazing. I gifted these to two people in church and I will probably be buying more as Christmas gifts. Thank you for fulfilling my idea.

I did not know what to expect. When it arrived today, in my hand I had a very solidly made interesting piece that actually sounds good. I like the fact that it uses recycled materials and that the funds that are given for this musical instrument go back to the people who made them in Africa. I'm sure it will be a topic of conversation when I bring it to a drum circle.

Beautiful, in jolly colors because of the soda bottle caps - and really useful! Will be used to create music in a stage production--I think this would also be a fun and educational instrument for children who are developing their rhythm! Carefully shipped, beautifully made. I look forward to years of music. The group's efforts are so worthy of support, also.

Perhaps my favorite Africa Heartwood instrument, and I own numerous...including a large Paragon Mali djembe that I absolutely love. Built well and sounds great. I love the visible Guinness caps and caps that say Ghana. Really neat...a pleasant percussive sound made by repurposed materials...and a great cause to support.
