I have lots of dial and digital calipers, and you can do "abacus-math" with dial calipers. I checked accuracy and repeatability on precision gauge blocks, and they repeated to +/- .0005", and were almost that good with measurements at different dimensions. Inside/shoulder/depth were within .001". Trick with micrometers and calipers is to get a good square-to-surface alignment, and repeat your particular amount of torque on the calipers. Practice on something you know is accurate, such as 1-2-3, or 2-4-6 blocks, and see how well you can repeat your hold and torque on the calipers. These calipers are a great buy and quality.
