As a medical student I find some aspects of this helpful, while others are too finicky to be useful.Pros:- Conveniently sized to fit with your ID badge and other cards; lightweight. I used a badge hole punch (the hospital security office should have one) to make a rectangular hole in one of the sides and then just hung it directly with my other cards.- Simple reminder of key steps – rate, rhythm, axis, intervals – and of which changes in which leads indicate left/right axis shifts. This will become ingrained over time, but this is a helpful and easy to carry reminder while you’re still learning.- The isoelectric overlay for assessing elevations and depressions is easy to use and helpful. This is probably the part I'll use most over the long term.Cons:- The markers for estimating heart rate are finicky. Although they appeared accurate, at least with a regular rhythm (see the photo, where you can estimate a heart rate of around 87, which matches the computer interpretation of the rate) it simply takes too long to use and is very sensitive to small changes in alignment. You’ll save yourself time and frustration but just learning and practicing estimating HR by counting boxes between R to R intervals (300/# of big boxes, 300-150-100-75-60-50).- The PR and QRS interval measurements also appear reasonably accurate, but in real life you’re either not going to care enough to look beyond the computer interpretation of the intervals, or you’re going to care so much you have caliper out for precise measurements. The card also doesn’t include a QT measure, which is what I most often want to check.- I found the included blue holder useless – the cards kept falling out. It was also too bulky to wear bundled with your ID badge and other cards.Overall, if you’re intimidated by ECGs or having trouble remembering the steps, or if you need to measure elevations/depressions regularly, this is a reasonable tool to buy. The set of three lets you share with friends, or keep spares in case you lose yours.
