I've played synthetic reeds before. While I prefer organic cane reeds, synthetics have certain advantages and are preferred by some players. So I thought I'd give these a try.I'm not clear on the reed strength. The product description on Amazon states both "Alto saxophone reeds number: 3" and "Model: 2.5." Also: "Saxophone reeds 2.5 is suitable for playing the flute head of the wind mouth, suitable for playing the repertoire or style of bright sound." That last sentence is mostly gibberish, but it indicates a 2.5 strength reed.I think they're 2.5 strength, but that reference to "reeds number: 3" confuses me -- especially given the fact that there is no printing on the reeds themselves, or the minimalist packaging. And there are no universal standards across manufacturers for reed strength either. I would just suggest the manufacturer clean up their Amazon product page -- or, better still, improve the product packaging. Or both. The manufacturer also describes them as "made of resin material." Synthetic reeds don't require dampening before playing, as cane reeds do. And, with proper care, they tend to last longer. I've always thought (with no clear evidence) that they're easier to clean after use. Also, they give my mouthpiece a menacing, all black look. How do they play? As well as any other reed in their price category. Honestly, I don't consider these premium reeds and might pass over them for concert play or a live gig. For practice, I think they're fine, although I'm not wild about the cut. If you look carefully at the tip of the reeds in the photos I've included, you'll see they're a little more squared off at the edges than the natural cane reed I've used for comparison.Should you buy them? Well, why not? Chances are, you've got more than a few extra reeds bouncing around in your sax case. Introducing a little more variety isn't going to cause harm.In summary, these aren't life changing for me, but they're entirely serviceable. The product desperately needs better packaging though, and an Amazon product page that makes better sense.
