About this item

  • 100% Live Arrival Guarantee.
  • Meet the Carinotetraodon travancoricus, or the pea puffer—a tiny fish with a big personality! These vibrant, greenish-brown puffers with yellow spots add a burst of life to nano aquariums. Known for their intelligence and feisty nature, they're a joy to watch. Plus, they're handy snail hunters, making tank maintenance a breeze. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned aquarists, the pea puffer brings charm and liveliness to any underwater world.
  • The pea puffer, scientifically known as Carinotetraodon travancoricus, thrives in freshwater aquariums. To ensure their well-being, maintain water parameters within the following ranges: Temperature: Keep the water temperature between 74°F to 82°F (23°C to 28°C). Pea puffers are sensitive to temperature fluctuations, so aim for stability.
  • pH Level: Maintain a pH level in the range of 7.0 to 8.0. Pea puffers adapt well to a slightly alkaline environment. Water Hardness: Aim for a water hardness of 5 to 20 dGH. This range mimics their natural habitat conditions.
  • Important things to know: Tank Size: While they're small, pea puffers need adequate space. A tank of at least 10 gallons is recommended, providing ample room for swimming and exploring.
  • Tank Mates: Pea puffers can be territorial, so choose tank mates carefully. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or larger fish. They do well in a species-only tank or with peaceful, small companions.
  • Feeding: These puffers have a unique diet. While they enjoy snacking on snails, it's crucial to provide a varied diet. Include high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms and daphnia to ensure they receive essential nutrients.
  • Hiding Places: Create hiding spots in the aquarium using plants, caves, or decorations. Pea puffers appreciate having retreats to feel secure. Water Quality: Regular water changes and proper filtration are crucial. Pea puffers are sensitive to poor water quality, so monitor parameters consistently and address any issues promptly.
  • By maintaining a suitable environment and considering their specific needs, you can enjoy the delightful antics and vibrant personality of pea puffers in your aquarium.

How to Safely Acclimate Shrimp & Fish

Proper acclimation is essential for maintaining the health of your shrimp and fish. If a drip acclimation kit is unavailable, the following steps may be used.

1. Float the bag in the tank for 15 minutes. Ensure not to exceed this time for breathable fish bags.

2. Transfer the shrimp/fish to a small container, ensuring to remove any deceased ones.

3. Add 4 ounces of your aquarium water to the container. Repeat this process 2-3 times every 10 minutes.

4. Discard half of the water from the container and repeat step #3.

5. Carefully use a net to transfer the shrimp/fish to the aquarium.

I ordered 3 pea puffers and received 2 extra. All 5 arrived healthy and active, and are still doing great a month later. I had a terrible snail infestation, both ramshorn and bladder snails, and these 5 went to work immediately and did their job well. After a month I now have barely any live snails left and now I feed them frozen bloodworms and have ordered live grindal worms and daphnia. I have a 30 gallon heavily planted tank and they will sometimes chase each other, but quickly lose interest and no one is getting bullied. I am very happy with my purchase!

Buy from a better source for these fish, it's a species that really isn't worth cutting corners on as it will come back in medication cost
