Know more about Ceramic Fiber

What is ceramic Fiber?

Ceramic Fiber is a man-made synthetic microfiber of specific diameter composed of high purity aluminosilicate materials which were developed since 1940s, to resolve various issues in other refractory materials. Ceramic fibers are produced in various forms like blankets, bulk fibers, cast shapes, paper, and textiles depending on the application.

Why Ceramic Fiber is the best insulation material:

The use of ceramic fibers in composite applications has been influenced since the last decades due to

  • Lightweight (which help to structural cost of equipment)
  • Fire resistant & ability to resist with direct heat up to 2400°F
  • High thermal shock resistant (ability of a solid to withstand sudden changes in temperature either during heating or cooling)

This is a decently thick insulation blanket. I am using this for my smelting furnace to melt aluminum and copper. I have a huge electric kiln that I can scale up or down by adding levels to it. I am converting this to propane. This blanket allows me to reduce the air space in side when using a smaller crucible which saves fuel and speeds up melting times.I think this is great for aluminum. It will work for copper. But I do not think I would use it for gold melting or iron forging due to the possible higher temperatures involved.

I ordered this blanket to shove under the dishwasher, where cold air can make its way up from the basement below. I do worry about the lines freezing when we get sub zero temps, and having this bit to insulate the dishwasher from the cold tile floor and the freezing crawl space below just eases my mind. I wasn't prepared for it to be the type of insulation that pulls apart and leaves white shards on your clothing; I thought it would be more of a "blanket", so there's that.

It's not UL listed so violates all county codes. In other words it will not pass inspection and you will waste your money.
