These are good for insuring the drilled holes are perfectly centered. You please the cylinder where you need to drill, then you press down with the drill, and the bit in the center pushes through the cylinder which doesn't spin and is stationary and drills your hole. These work as advertised, and each centering bit is marked with its size through some sort of etching. What I didn't like as much is some depressed easier than others. In other words, some more easily pressed down through the cylinder to drill, and others seemed like they were too difficult and resisted that. They weren't very smooth, so while they worked, it felt like it was a rough fit. Also, the bits aren't all that sharp or good. Good enough, but not great. They did include an extra set of bits, but none of them are marked, so you're going to have to use trial and error to find which bit is the replacement. Overall, this is OK and I'm glad I have them (I don't own any others), but it could be better.

VIX Bits Self Centering Drill Bit Set-1/4" Hex Shank Self Centering -- SAVED ME TIME installing a 6 ft piano hinge on cabinet. 72 holes were made quickly.... and accurately. Set came with extra drill blits for each slize. Used in maple and oak , both decisuous angiosperms which both produce hardwoods. Maple is the harder of the two. When drilling pushed straight in and a pilot hole was created and pulled the drill back -- and when to next pilot hole to be drilled -- no broken drill bits. After centering vix bit in hole pushed gently -- very QUICKLY made pilot hole centered.

Great price for this many self-centering drill bits. Comes in decent plastic case to keep organized. Includes a couple of extra drill bits and wrench. Have used two sizes so far and no complaints, does exactly as intended.

These can handle about two drill holes before they get clogged up and don't spring back into place. They work, and the vent holes do help but you have to manually jiggle and bang it around to get all the debris out so the self-centering head actually returns to the correct position. I would not recommend these for drywall, but they would probably work okay on wood.
