同シリーズのEF66は車体の中身が空っぽで大変がっかりしましたが本キットは中身のディーゼルエンジンなど機器類が精密に再現されています。まさにミュージアムモデルに相応しい内容です。鉄道ファンのみならずメカニカルなものに興味があるモデラーには広くおススメできるキットです。

美祢線沿線に住んでいたこともあり、毎日汽笛と走行音を聞いていた思い出の車両なので購入しました。他の方のレビューにある通り、車番によっては適合しないパーツがいくつかあります(それについては説明書等で説明があります)。私が作りたかった852号機などは屋根のパーツやラジエーターカバーのエッチングパーツ(キットは2分割的なデザインですが、852号機の実車は3分割)が異なるなど、いくつかパーツの作成・改造が必要です。とはいっても金型の開発費などが幾ら掛かっているのやらと心配になるレベルの精密さで作りごたえは半端ではないので、DD51が好きな方には是非(但し、詳しければ詳しいほど実車との差異が気になる可能性大です(笑)）説明書だけでも50ページ以上あり、組み立て方以外に「この部品は○○で～の働きをします」といった簡単な解説まで書かれており、DD51の構造をよく理解できます。

まだ制作に取り掛かってないが 箱を開けてパーツを眺め楽しんだいる状態。非常に細密な作り込みができそうで楽しみに想像中です。
