Even if you're not a professional HVAC technician, there are a lot of reasons you may need to measure airflow. It's helpful for computer builds, checking the airflow from servers, and making sure your HVAC system airflow is as expected. As a sports shooter, I also use it to check the wind speed and find the actual direction.I was able to use it to locate the very noisy server in a room of noisy servers, by checking the airflow of each. It was a big help in a new custom computer build to verify that the airflow was sufficient, and in the right direction. It's very lightweight, making it easy to carry around with you. The readings are repeatable, so it seems accurate. At this low price it's handy for even casual users and sports participants, like baseball or golf.

The handheld anemometer is a nice little unit with some flaws and quirks. Accuracy is fair, but the unit seems to struggle with lighter breezes (under 4 MPH) that units with larger sensors or wind cups seem to handle just find. At higher wind speeds, accuracy seems to be on par with larger units. My biggest complaint about this unit is that it DOES NOT remember your last used settings -- you have to manually reset all of your settings every time you turn it on. This is ridiculously frustrating, especially if you're making the same readings repeatedly (such as when doing HVAC duct balancing). Other issues are with some of the labels on the screen (such as Mil/h instead of Mph). The user manual is printed in extremely small typeface and has some section in even lighter printing, making it quite a strain on your eyes. Finally, just be aware that the unit does not include any kind of case -- you'll need to source one on your own. This anemometer is a nice tool -- it's just marred by several small flaws.

This anemometer works fine but it's flimsily constructed to the point where I feel like the propeller would break off if I carried this around for work. Any kind of potentially heavy user should get something where the airscrew isn't protruding so much. It also doesn't remember the last unit used so you get m/s every time you turn it on and have to cycle through to the dumb units real people use. It does seem to produce believable numbers but I don't have another one to compare it against.

Quite a few times, it would have been advantageous to be able to measure air speed. For instance, did changing an air filter really increase airflow as much as is claimed? Or, are those two HVAC vents producing equal amounts of air? So, when I saw this meter, I decided to order it.After apparently bucking a head wind, the anemometer blew into town after 9 days. Which, remarkably, was on time given the delivery estimate.I like its easy-to-read digital display as well as the meter's ease of operation. It requires just one AAA battery which was wisely included in the box. Having this device conjures up all sorts of ideas like: Holding it outside the window while driving down the road, comparing windspeeds on different sides of the same building corner, comparing the airspeeds of different fans, etc. It just opens up a whole new way of looking at airflow. The anemometer's 'propeller' spins effortlessly and continues to do so for several seconds after the air flow is removed. Very low resistance and well balanced. The display's 3/8" high characters are fairly easy to read even with the backlight off. This instrument is a welcome addition to my shop.

I'm quite impressed with the build quality of this meter. It's built from a VERY sturdy plastic. I gave it a good twist and there was only minimal flex, with no creaking. While the screw for the battery cover isn't captive, it does go into a brass insert. I wasn't expecting that at all from a cheap meter.Functionality-wise, it's very simple to use. I only needed to dive into the manual to figure out how to set up the CFM measurement, but it's easy to do. Digits on the screen have very good contrast and viewing angles, and the white backlight works great.I don't have a way to validate that air velocity measurements from this device are accurate, but readings do at least seem reasonable. Temperature and relative humidity readings are spot on a known-accurate meter. The only complaint I have is wishing this came with some sort of cover for the delicate fan blades, or a case. Again, the build quality is a HUGE positive with this unit. Not many others have a hygrometer built in, either. I'm excited to use this for kiting, but could see it being very useful for weather spotters as well.
