A nice piece of kit.I bought this for making rifle cleaning rods. Many of the name brand rod use this bastard thread and this tooling worked a treat in allowing me to make bespoke cleaning rods for each of my firearms.

The tap was OK and seemed to be on size and thread pitch. It does the job.The die left a bit to be desired-probably because I'm use to better quality adjustable dies. This die is not adjustable-you get whatever fit it was machined with. It did an acceptable job threading brass rod-the threads were very nice and fit the already tapped hole perfectly. Note that I did not use the included tap on this job-I had already drilled and tapped the hole before the die arrived. My major beef with the die is because it is tapered to start from either side you cannot thread close to a shoulder with it. Normally, once the thread is closed to being finished on a shouldered workpiece, you can flip the die around and finish threading pretty close to the shoulder. I ended up having to turn a substantial undercut between the threads and the shoulder to get the part to thread all the way in its mating part. Fortunately, I had extra thread length on the rod and in the hole it was going in.Overall, I am happy with the outcome since I was in a hurry to get the job finished on time. Normally I would buy my dies from McMaster-Carr, MSC, Travers Tool, Shars or one of the other suppliers but dies in this size and thread pitch are very expensive for what they are.

Worked well for my application. I was just threading aluminum. Seemed sharp and cut decent threads. I liked it came in a set.

I purchased this 5/16"-27 Tap & Die to have on hand for all of my shotgun cleaning rods and attachments. Most all of the major brands, (Outers, Hoppes, Dewey, Bore Tech, Otis), are threaded 5/16"-27. This is somewhat of an oddball size. (The standard 5/16" coarse thread is 5/16"-18, and the fine thread is 5/16"-24). Many times people will use a 5/16"- 24 Tap to chase the threads in a cleaning rod that has been tapped 5/16"-27. This will damage the threads. By having the correct 5/16"-27 Tap & Die on hand, this eliminates any issues with these threaded shotgun cleaning components.
