You can combine this controller with an electronic drum pad such as the TP65S (sold separately) to create a compact Hi-Hat capable of handling a variety of Hi-Hat performances, including ones that incorporate full-open, full-closed, and half-open movements and foot splashing.

My daughter is a drummer and her granddaughter (my great-grand) wants to be a drummer too so when my daughter purchased a used kit for her, the only think missing was the high-hat pedal. I bought it for her so the gift will be from both her grandma and great-grandma. I was very happy to see that it could be shipped to Hawaii (I live in Wisconsin) and it got there right on time. Good purchase, good price, good timing, good service.

I did a lot of research to see if this pedal will be compatible with an old drum pad and it was. When I was setting up my gear and plugging in all the cables, I noticed that I have my foot on the big at pedal while I turn on the pad; when you hit the hi hats while your foot is off, it will sound closed. And when you press your foot down on the pedal ,it will sound open . So just make sure that you keep your foot off the pedal before you turn it on so you don’t come across this issue .

Took me time to write this review because I needed to test the hihat pedal. here are my thoughts:1. delivery is fast. item is packed securely and nicely with some free candies (my daughter loved it)Pros:* As for the Hi-Hat pedal, its nice and solid* Great for mimicking hihat pedal playingCons:* Response rate is very delayed.* Only available is Open and Close HiHat. no mid-open.Overall, its great for home use or friendly jams. Not recommended if you will use professionally.

I had high hopes for this pedal but maybe shouldn't have.I read the other reviews where people were complaining about missed triggers but thought maybe they played with a light foot or there was some other anomaly causing the problem they were having. That isn't the case. The pedal isn't really adjustable in any way for sensitivity so you are kind of stuck with what you get. Unless you really hammer the pedal with your foot, you will not get the closed high hat sound. When it's open it's open, and when it's closed it closed, but you can't go back and forth between the two with any regularity and expect that the pedal will respond accordingly, which is really too bad as the concept is great. All in all, it's better than the el cheapo pedals that come with the Yamaha DD65, so in that regard it's an upgrade for me, but it really hasn't performed like I had hoped.I can only recommend it as an alternative to the horrible stock pedals that come with the portable e-drum sets made by Yamaha and Pyle, and I assume Alesis as well.
