This mic is surprisingly small—much smaller than my older version. It’s very practical and works well with good range and audio quality. However, it does pick up wind noise and breathing since it lacks a foam cover, though this isn’t an issue for indoor use. One downside is that the magnet for clipping on fell off while setting up, but a drop of superglue fixed it perfectly. Also, I’m unsure about its security and potential juice jacking risks, so I wouldn’t recommend using it with an important device.

My husband and I thought we’d try vlogging on our next vacation and wanted some better microphones than the one on the phones. Being a newbie, this mic setup was initially confusing as the directions were sparse. For instance, they say nothing about charging the mics themselves or the uses for the different heads (furry vs foam). I eventually figured out that the short USB A to C wire was for charging the mics. When I put one on to charge, there was no light to indicate charging or progression. The mics also don’t let you know how much power is left.I first tried using the mic on my laptop for a video call, but the wide transmitter took up two ports, specifically the one for my wireless mouse. An extender wire would have been a welcome addition for computers or phones with thick covers. My husband could barely get it to work with his Otterbox Defender. It was truly plug and play, which I liked vs having to pair a Bluetooth device. When I tested it, it wasn’t as loud as I’d like, and the clip wouldn’t stay on my t-shirt collar because it was so small. It kept flopping over or falling off. You’d either need a stiffer fabric or the band of a shoulder bag to hold it on, but even then I’d fear it would fall off due to its size.I then tried the mic on my iPhone SE. I liked how they gave you a lightning adapter for the transmitter. To test it, I made videos using the two mic heads, the phone without the mic, and in quiet vs crowded conditions. The foam head worked best in both quiet or noisy settings and cut out a lot of background noise. The furry head did nothing to cut noise, and the volume was too low. But I guess that’s supposed to be for windy conditions. The phone itself with no mic was the loudest, but picked up background noise, and the clarity wasn’t as good. It’s a good unit for its price point but could do with larger clips and better instructions for people who are just starting out.

The lavlier microphone works really well. You can tell a big difference in the sound quality of my videos now that I use them.Very easy to set up and use.
